You are right, can split IMG without these FID and PID entries.

According to my personal experiences, FID and PID setting at this location are of no importance and a dispute about this would have been exiting.
But probably I have missed something - that's why I opened the thread.

In some the old and new map (MPC format usually) is no FID and PID in separate img. So you can choose any affordable FID and PID for mapset. Also in this you may split map twice or even more time. First FID will be for original and other for experiences and comparing of changes with first on-line.

    Hi,

I downloaded the entire mapset indicated in Bam-Bam's post, and installed it into Basecamp using GMap Tool (add the img, split, with "compile Preview Map" selected, setting a mapset name, and setting a FID (1001) and PID (1).

Everything displays fine in Basecamp, but if I enter a route or track, I can't view the elevation graph in the track or route properties - I get an error message that says "There is no elevation data in the selected track(s)".

I've tried clicking on "Track/Advanced/Set selected track to map elevation", but this option is grayed out.

I'm using the free version of cGPS Mapper in conjunction with GMap tool.

Any ideas on how to access elevation data?

    Thanks

This thread is about installing .IMGs in Mapsource, if you use Basecamp, put the .img in an sd in a Garmin folder and run Basecamp. Map will show with all its intact features. Right click there and hit Open.

Hi, and thanks for the reply Catymag - apologies for crashing the Mapsource thread.

I couldn't find an equivilant Basecamp thread, but the instructions are largely the same. I have created an SD card, but when running from the card, printing is disabled - I like to print maps to take with me when walking, and although I always have the appropriate OS sheet in my bag, having an A4 or A5 in your pocket is very convebient. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Rob

Printing in some maps is disabled because Garmin doesnt have a licence to allow customers to print these maps.
In Mapsource usually can print them, so try with Mapsource Gmaptool version you created.

If you did all according to instructions ,you should have the install.bat for Mapsource
