    Read with care post n1
    MDR is map search index.

MDR. Present when MapSource combines multiple IMG files together into a single map
image for uploading to a GPS receiver. Appears to “bind” the individual map files
together, possibly to enable cross-IMG searches. Also used in certain map families (City
Navigator and City Select) in an “overview” IMG file, generally named ending in
“_mdr.img” (e.g., NACSv5_mdg.img), to provide global searches of facilities, addresses,
    etc.

@catymag; thanks for your explanation. After reading post1 again and your answer, I understand that the MDRMAP.img file is excluded. But I'm a bit confused about what is ment bij de sentence "Watch out to not include the overview image". As the MDRMAP.img is a kind of search/index-file this one is not ment to be the 'overview image'. I guess an overview image is like basemap.img ?. So, only the files with numbers (for example 12345678.img) must be included?

I tried to find the answer in the Forum and maybe I read it somewhere. If so, I forgot. I'm totaly new with this stuff en read that many that I got confused. So many tools, different kinds of maps, solutions ....

To install an .img in MS, just drag&drop the img in Gmaptool, check SPLIT tab and select files for MS, create a directory where it will create files, insert map FID ans PID and click spit.
This Gmaptool feature is needed to split an img (or more than one) to display it in Mapsource if you dont have the Mapsource version already.
If you have already splitted files for Mapsource without installer, use Mapsetoolkit to install the map in Mapsource.

Oke, thanks. Learned a bit more. Just realized that I mixed up at some time the GMapTool with the MapSetToolkit. I'll read and learn more the next days.

But use Homeport to display Bluecharts on pc, I cant see any valid reason to get them in MS but printing them.

Default I don't have any problems using GMapTool

    Hello Catymag

With best regards - thanks for your reply but
I don't have any problems using GMapTool and inspecting the link you provided doesn't took me any closer to my previous thread question, what happens if there is no FID and PID used, when splitting img. I'm really sorry, that you closed the thread "When and why splitting with GMapTool FID and PID are required?" in a hurry.

According to my personal experiences, FID and PID setting at this location are of no importance and a dispute about this would have been exiting.
But probably I have missed something - that's why I opened the thread.

Fact is, that I have used the GMapTool to split commercial map img files without using FID and PID entries.
And I haven't faced any problems yet, which doesn't mean that there is not any.
