OK, so at least in 6.16.2 the unlockwizard.exe is back again... do we already have a 'special' version of 6.16.2 ?

I just installed the original Mapsorce 6.16.2... after installation (regardless via MSMAIN.msi or via Setup.exe) there is definitely no unlockwizard.exe anywhere on my PC. So, why has catymag an unlockwizard.exe and I don't (Windows 7, German language)???

Mapsource 6.16 store its unlock codes in a text file, you can simply copy it to your second PC. Files is %APPDATA%\GARMIN\Maps\UnlocCodes.ucx, on Windows XP it should be something like:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Applications Data\GARMIN\Maps\UnlocCodes.ucx

    in Vista and 7:
    C:\User\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Maps\UnlocCodes.ucx

Unlock codes from previous versions of Mapsource are in registry. You can save registry branch and restore it on other PC. It is in HCU\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Codes

UnlockWizard remained from previous installation. You can find it inside Mapsource 6.13 package.

Thanks for the info re UnlocCodes.ucx... But I just checked the registry (Mapsource 6.16.2, Win XP as well as Win7): also here all my unlockcodes are stored in HCU\Software\Garmin\MapSource\Codes (and in fact you can import the codes to another PC by launching the exported REG-File)... So I am wondering whether the UnlocCodes.ucx method would work, given that even the new Mapsource version have all unlock codes in the registry ?!?

New Mapsource reads from file and from registry too.
    Thanks, Kanopus

Are file and registry method somehow synchronized...? assume for example: I have 5 unlock codes in the registry... now I copy a new UnlocCodes.ucx in the appropriate folder (e.g. 7 unlock codes, partly matching the ones in the registry)... what is happening then with the registry codes? Are they updated according to the codes in UnlocCodes.ucx....?

I don't think so. Each version of Mapsource use its own method for storing codes, new version reads from registry for compatibility reasons.
    Thanks, Kanopus

I now have tested this question (Win XP, Mapsource 6.16.2). Conclusion ???: only UnlockCodes.ucx matters:

Initial situation: Registry and UnlockCodes.ucx are in sync

I deleted the codes from the registry, started Mapsource... everything unchanged... all maps unlocked... I closed Mapsource... still all codes in the UnlockCodes.ucx... no codes in the registry

Then I backed up my UnlockCodes.ucx (copy & paste) and deleted all codes from UnlockCodes.ucx

Mapsource: all maps locked.... I closed Mapsource...

Then I renamed my backup of UnlockCodes.ucx back to UnlockCodes.ucx

Mapsource: all maps unlocked... still no codes in the registry...

So, I think the conclusion is: only the UnlockCodes.ucx matters... no codes need to be in the registry

But: I had only the CN 2011.10 as an example... I don't know whether the registry codes might matter regarding Non-GMAP maps... ?!?

I still would prefer to have the good old unlockwizard.exe on my PC... But simply copying old files of unlockwizard.exe and double clicking unlockwizard.exe does not work ('There is a problem with the registry...')

    Any thoughts?

Install [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (UnlockWizard included) and then upgrade to newer version
