Sorry for all the questions guys, should have looked further,
lolypop000 said i should delete the existing map, and replace with the update, obviously i will copy and save the original,
but i am a little worried that if i screw anything up, is there a recovery tool? as being an inbuilt and pre installed Garmin nav,
i don't want to end up with a head unit thats just a CD/radio/DVD player, as i bought it for the satnav.

One further question do i need certain map editions to run on the Kenwood unit, or can i run any?

Edit: OK got unlocked safty cam file!

OK just been trying to load the speed cam file for UK, which seem to be .gpi ,
now i can access the unit as a disc drive or Garmin unit, i have tried to just drop the files in the disc drive but there are only the two folders in the pic, along with the two disc images? and no matter if i create a folder called POI , or just drop the file in on its own it doesn't show up on the maps etc.

I have also tried with the Garmi POI loader in both modes and always get the message in the other pics, please help.

If it is an unlocked .gpi file it will be seen by the unit. What file is it? Check it's not actually an encrypted .gpi with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or tell us what file you have.

If it's not an encrypted gpi file, or it is protected but has a valid unlock code, it should work, see above.

POI Loader doesn't work that way. It takes .csv or .gpx files and combines them with .bmp files (and sound files if reqd) to form a fully compiled .gpi file.

Sorry should have said its suppose to be a cyclops unlocked speed cam file downloaded from the link earlier in this thread, but once placed in the garmin folder on the unit there appears to be nothing happening with alerts on the map IE speed cam locations don't show, and cant be found in the POI menu on the unit, tried the file on its own and in a folder called POI.

Also should there not be more files in the garmin folder than just those four files?

Have you set folder options in windows to show hidden files etc? [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Also try a different *.gpi file.

    @Tricky-Ricky

    65tilz

I have unfortunately not with me the device for the screen in english and exact path...
But you try : Tools->Settings->Proxymity Points->.....and the screenshot

Can also be that the Kenwood does not process the Cyclops

    Bye,bye

I have set windows to show hidden files, but this only reveals one more file on the unit which seems to be a map verification file,
tried to load the speed cams again but no joy, tried in a folder called poi and without a folder, makes no difference, nothing shows,
the only odd thing is that with the poi loaded in the nav screen where the copyright are shown etc it comes up with all the cyclops speed cam info, but thats it nothing else.

Cant figure why there are just the four files in the garmin folder the two map disc images and the voice and vehicle folders plus the verification file nothing else, maybe i need to create one that has a compatible name?

One other point is that if i go to the custom poi screen, it says i should consult the manual if i want to add some.

Further to this the manual suggest that the files are loaded onto a CDR via the Garmin POI loader but it wont except .poi files, this is driving me nuts!

Maybe it doesn't recognise the encrypted Cyclops *.gpi files for some reason, but that seems unlikely. If the manual says that it is only possible to load custom poi files onto a CD R to create *gpi using POI Loader and transfer them to the unit that way, then maybe it's indication of that. However, as a 'Garmin' unit it would normally recognise Cylclops. Are you 100% sure:
    * That you have used a fully unlocked cyclops file? Did you check your file with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]? If you're not sure post the file or a screenshot of the PGFT result. Also you could try using a locked cyclops from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] with the FID changed to 700 or 900 using PGFT and adding a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] unlock code.
    * That the manual doesn't have a separate section regarding Cyclops *gpi and their handling? Most Garmin units when new have a sample file of 'Garmin Safety Cameras' (cyclops) check your backups if you have any.
    * That cyclops and other fully compiled *.gpi files won't load by simply burning them directly onto a CD R and introducing them to the unit that way?

If it's too much trouble or you're convinced cyclops won't work you can always load custom redlight/speed cam POIs such as the latest[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and others using the POILoader/CD R method in the manual.

This is the .gpi file that i have tried to load with USB connection and burning a CD but the unit refuses to see it either way, i am starting to become convinced that the file naming or format is the problem with the unit not seeing them, is the fact that there are just the two map/ base image files, along with just the verification key and just voice and vehicle folders a little odd? should there not be more?
