Guide Change Disk on RT4 on Citroen C6 2008 - HOW TO

How To to change internal disk in RT4 (05/04/16)

I have got any problem with the radio, infact when I turn on the car the radio attemp 10/15 minutes to run and the parking sensors don't run until the radio is completly run.

    The Machanical saw me:
    - to flash new firmware: I flash with 8.31 but didn't resolve my problem;
    - change the battery: Its a special battery I changed but didn't resolve the problem.

After I change the disk and I resolv the problem.

For change the disk its necessary:
    - the minipata-cf adapther and set on slave for the disk, that I bought on amazon:
Adaptare Scheda adattatore per schede CF a 6,4 cm (2,5 pollici) IDE 44-pin maschio - 14,66
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    - the CF disk in solid state from 32gb: I bought 64gb for I have more space in the jukebox function:
    Komputerbay 64GB professionale COMPACT FLASH CARD CF 800X SCRIVERE 75 MB / s READ 120MB / s Extreme Speed UDMA 7 RAW 64 GB - 55
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Umount the radio and change the disk in the radio and set CF to slave, mount the radio and turn on the car with the firmware disk in the radio for create and format the new partitions. Its important: DO NOT TURN OFF THE CAR DURING THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE!
After I umount the radio and with the PC, I copy the files from original disk to CF disk, this procedure is necessitary for copy the settings of the car (sensors, menu, audio/videos, telephone, jukebox, maps, ...). When finisched to copy remount CF in the radio then in the car.

Now the radio startup in few seconds!

    Sorry for my bad english!

    Good Work!

    Hi Mastermax,

As my RT4 also has a lot of "hesitations" in inner cities and restarts at some spots when navigating, I also want to replace my HDD.
So I bought the same adaptor and a Computerbay UDMA7 32GB 1000x CF card.
    I followed your instructions:
"Unmount the radio and change the disk in the radio and set CF to slave, mount the radio and turn on the car with the firmware disk in the radio for create and format the new partitions."

But in my case the Peugeot logo appears, the software upgrade disk with my current version starts to rotate and then: nothing happens.. No upgrade message appears and so on. The RT4 restarts again to retry the process, but ends finally in stand-by with the disk inside.
Luckily, after remounting the original HDD everything works as before.
I tried the replacement also with creating a diskcopy of the original HDD and placing this on the CF card, but this gives the same result: no reaction.
I even bought a different CF card (Refurbished Sandisk Extreme 32GB UDMA7 120MB/s) and a different CF to IDE adaptor, but still no result.
Is there anything special that has to be done before the formatting of the CF card in the RT4, to make this formatting start?

Note: to make the unmounting of the RT4 not too complex, I did not remove all the cables of the RT4, but just removed the cover and changed the HDD. Is the unplugging an replugging of all cables necessary to trigger the formatting?

When you are changing any hardware on a PC you should disconnect the power supply. Our nav system is similar so I don't know if this is your problem but it is much better to remove at least the big connector with the power source.

    Yes, I agree.
So I did now the unmounting with removing the big connector.
But the effect keeps the same: the format of the new CF does not start.
I am sure that the adapter is on slave position, so that's not the problem.
I have tried the CF card now in three ways: originally formatted, reformatted with my computer and with a diskcopy of the original RT4 HDD on it. No difference.
Also with another type of adapter: no difference.
Also I tried with a reset by pushing the Dark button: reset works, but no formatting starts. I just don't get the normal message that upgrade disk is found etc. and Eject does not function.
After mounting back the original HDD, the upgrade disk is recognized and everything works again as before.
Are there different versions of the RT4 that need a bit different process to start the formatting of a new disk?

Try insert the update CD 8.31, shutdown the unit. And click the 2 white buttons at same time they are on bottom of the radio. The unit will boot and start flashing the update, then use mirascript to copy the config file to disk... All Done ;-)

For faster and more reliable update use USB key for updating. You can connect USB to every RT4/5 unit and flash from USB.

Papez, how should I create this bootable USB. Can I just copy files from mounted CD_RT4-5_SW_8.31.iso image or do I need to restore USB stick from this ISO file? Thanks.

There is no need to create bootable USB. Just copy all files from iso image to USB and it will work. USB should be formatted FAT32.
