new New Zealand - Google Hybrid Images - 2M/Pixel - Selfmade - North Island

    Hi Guys,

I am planning to go New Zealand sometimes in the future, therefore i need a proper map, and since i am big of google maps, i decided to start a little project by making a map by my self collected by google image data for offline use within New Zealand :-)

Alright here is what i did:

    - Collecting Google Hybrid Image data from whole New Zealand with GoogleOzi
    - Specs are 2m/Pixel which is pretty high detail its zoom level 16 on google maps
    - At the end i had 189 single "map-sheets" in *.jpg with additional gps/calibration data for each sheet, around 9 gig of data
    - then i converted all the single "map-sheets" into the *.ecw format, with the compression 20, now the data is reduced to 4,41 GB.

    Why *.ecw ?
Instead of the Oziexplorer format ozfx, ecw is "open source" so its readable in other mapping progz aswell, and the features quality of images are more or less the same.

Why not one big large single *.ecw ?
Creating such large files is always linked with big trouble, it takes ages to create them and at the end something always is going wrong.

But you can easily load all the *.ecw files in one single session into CompeGPS or Global-Mapper, and for those OziExplorer Fans, there is the option "find map at this point" which works perfectly.

    Notes:
You will notices that denotation of those files is far from "perfect". i simply started with 1.jpg and continued, i also forgot some small regions during the process, which i had to remake at the end, but all the data is there ! Its the complete Norther Island!

There is a sample files to show what i did excactly:

    NZL_NORTH_ISLAND_ECW_G-HYBRID_2METER_20COMP_SAMPLE.rar

I also created an overview file of whole New Zealand, which is usefull if you are working with Ozi-Explorer and the option "find map at this point", its taken from google Terrain Data at 15M/Pixel

    NZL_15M_TERRAIN_ECW_20COMP.rar

The password for the download folder is: newzealand, and the password for the rar file is: NeW_ZeAlANd__KiWi

    There are 24 files each 195mb -> 4,41 GIG

Please give feedback and comment, i also did the southern island i will upload that data aswell...
Feel free to pm if you want more detailed info how to create such a map by yourself...

I started to do the same for Australia aswell, but since the country far bigger there is much more data, but if there is intrested i can upload that aswell...
