Maybe but I asked them if there could be a feature to have more than 1 map loaded and use transparency sliders "the answer was no."

LOL, really seems we are in the same boat here.
Some time ago I asked them if it would be possible to use some sort of overlay.
Like a simple track map as an overlay over a low detail PDF map (converted of course).
According to them there is no need for such a feature as you can alsways switch between maps
Same story for the import of other map formats, even for free formats and sources they claim to have rights issues.
And of course they alsways insist to use the latest set of Ozi tools to make my maps - too bad if you want to use your maps on other programs as well.

I guess with more and more (semi) free alternatives popping up Ozi has to do something to keep the market share.
A proper option to directly download from free online sources should be included as well as a simplyfied menu for starters.
But as I'm still waiting for the support of the EPSG database since CE2.33 I guess Ozi has other priorities
The only feedback they react to lately is in regards to missing Datums and Projections....

You could work with transpanecy in Global Mapper and "join" two map to have one with a permanent overlay.
For Android there are some programs that allow the use of your own overlays and 3D functions.
Guess the biggest problem is the fact that the gouvernment here does not care about providing proper maps for the public.
The that are available are hard to get for noobs and in most cases not good enough in terms of details and up to date infos.
A shame really that Nearmap got so greedy.

Ok, that is at least something, but for most of the states it hard to impossible to find good and detailed maps for free.
But I can feel with you as my sister had to rely on satellite internet for a few years in the bush too.
Download speeds painfully slow, drop outs and total overpricing gave her the frustation on a regular base.
A neighbour does regular downloads for friends in the bush and uses AU post and USB sticks to get them what they need.
At this stage I start to admit that the OSM project really starts to become a serious map provider.
Due to provided track logs their database now covers at least 60% more tracks in the areas I checked.
And in the general mapping area Ozi is fighting to keep their market share as more and more Android and Iphone apps pop up that offer free and paid sources with often easier user interfaces.
Ozi should go the online way as well and integrate online sources similar to what Global Mapper or free map downloader already offer.
A simply click and download is still easier than the manual creation of maps - at least for most.
Especially the "forced way" of updating to the latest Ozi tools is a step in the wrong direction.
Adding features is one thing, upping the version numbers only for new DRM protections a totally different story.
You now have to pay to export into unprotected formats and not even in this version you are able to save unprotected OZFX2 or OZFX3 files.
Only because more and more programs decided to support the unprotected Ozi format.
But for example creating your own overlays to intergrate in a map is made impossible if your base map or overlay was created in the protected formats.
I'm slowly moving away from Ozi and only use it for maps I share online in case they had a different format.

    Release Version 3.95.6c (February 2015)

    • Fixed - the previous version was not setting the corner markers correctly for new map calibrations.
    • Much improved track handling, which includes creation of track points and their manipulation.
    • Improved Track Control, new options, resizing of dialog and columns.
    • Improved Point Set handling, which includes point creation and their manipulation.
    • Improved Point Control, new options, resizing of dialog and columns.
    • The Maximum point sets have been increased to 1000.
    • The Selection Control has new options for above changes.
    • Some options on the Select Menu have been removed and are now only available on the Selection Control.
    • Added a "Recently Used Map" list, same as the "Load Recent Map" menu option but in a dialog list.
      • Provides a list of the "Recently Used maps" in a dialog for instant access.
      • Allows you to remove a Map from the list.
      • The new option is on the Load Menu (below "Load Recent Map").
      • Also available as an option for the User Toolbar (you need to add it to the toolbar yourself).

    • Added an option in Configuration to "Load Last Data" (defaults to On). On OziExplorer start up will load :
      • the last waypoint file
      • the last route file
      • the last event file
      • the last track files
      • the last point files

    • Maps now remember their last position when closed and reopen to the same position when opened.
    • The "Save Map Open Position" option on the map menu has been removed.
    • A new OziExplorer "Update to a new version" method has been added.
      • To update to this version it will have to be done manually as the new method is not in the previous version of OziExplorer.
      • However for the next OziExplorer update OziExplorer will download the update and run the setup for you.
      • You will then run through the setup options as usual.
