    hot Unlocking MIO completely from SD

    Hello all!

    here I will explain how you can simply unlock any Mio with an SD card option. This unlock procedure is very useful because flash disk of your Mio stays completely intact and everything runs from SD card, including navigation (preferably iGO primo).

    What do you need:

    - Device.xml which you can find on the root of your Mio flash disk
    - simple unlock menu which you can download from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (pass= gpspower)

    Important note: This unlock is adapted for all Mio devices with 480x272 resolution! It won't fit on all devices with lower resolution 320x240 (Moov 200, Moov 210 for eg.)

    instructions:

    1. download unlock menu and unpack it with winrar
    2. copy all 3 folders (default, progs, menu) to an empty SD card (fat32)
    3. open device.xml file and take note about your device HW type, for eg:

    howtogetdevicetype

    4. Now rename folder default on your SD card according to your device HW type, like on the example above: SEEKER2_T600_EE

    5. Unlocking part done! Reset your device and your Mio should boot into a new unlock shell:

    screen001

    /////////////////////////////////

    How does it work? This new boot procedure "kills" all default Mio processes at the boot process and executes new UNLOCK menu, totally independent from internal flash disk as it works completely from the SD card.

    As you will see, your new unlock menu will have various options and icons that can trigger many wince apps. But honestly, most users will only need an option to launch alternative navigation app like iGO Primo, so I will explain only that option below.

    Installing iGO primo beside your new unlock menu:

    1. Download iGO Primo for wince (available in iGO thread)
    2. Copy folder Primo to an SD card and make sure that main primo folder is named Primo and .exe file is named Primo.exe
    3. In general, this sys is recommended for all Mio devices:
    [gps]
    port="2"
    baud="57600"
    set_messages=0

    [sound]
    csv_voice_enabled=1
    ding_muted=1
    maneuver_chimes=0

    [power]
    skip_suspend_process=1
    skip_resume_process=1
    skip_suspend_process_all=1
    skip_resume_process_all=1
    backlight_manage_values="1"
    backlight_max="100"
    backlight_min="0"
    backlight_methods="39"
    backlight_day="100"
    backlight_night="100"
    powermgm_state="0"
    backlight_manage_keys = 1
    backlight_reverse = 0
    backlight_key_timeout_BA = "BatteryTimeout"
    backlight_key_timeout_AC = "ACTimeout"
    backlight_key_ontap_BA = "BacklightOnTap"
    backlight_key_ontap_AC = "ACBacklightOnTap"
    backlight_key_on_BA = "OnOff"
    backlight_key_on_AC = "ExtOnOff"
    backlight_events = 1
    disconnect_gps_on_suspend=0

    [map]
    2dheadup=1
    sieve_mode=1

    [3d_config]
    disable_roadsign_navigation_mode=0

    [interface]
    laneinfo_signpost_enabled=1
    shutdown_time=0
    max_flag_distance_3d=3000

    [feature]
    signpost_coloring=1
    tunnel_guidance=0

    [warning]
    speedlimit_warning_visual=1
    speedcam_warning=1
    is_spoken=1
    speedcam_max_lookahead=2000
    speedcam_maxdistance_from_road=10

    [network]
    available="0"

    4. Add maps, poi's and other iGO content for your needs
    5. Launch igo Primo from Primo icon of your new mio unlock shell.
    6. Enjoy

    /////////////////////////////////

    additional tips for advance users:
    You can hide all icons that you don't need in your new unlock menu or you can change their order on the main screen. To do that you need to change rows in icons.xml located inside the folder menu. For example if you need only 5 icons to be shown in the main menu instead of 10, you can delete all unneeded rows from the <screen header="Screen1"> or you can add rows from the "Screen2" to "Screen1" etc..

    I already made 1 screen option, you can test it if it suits you. Go into folder menu and:
    - delete file icons.xml
    - rename icons_only_1_screen.xml to icons.xml
    - reset device

    and this is the result:

    Update 29.11 2016 - Added new unlock for Mio devices with resolution 800x480

    Link --> [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    pass: gpspower.net

    Instructions:

    1. Unrar and copy all files and folders from Mio_unl_800x480 folder to empty SD card (fat32)

    2. open device.xml file located on your Mio flash disk and take note about your device HW type, for eg:

    howtogetdevicetype

    3. Now rename folder default on your SD card according to your device HW type, like on the example above: SEEKER2_T600_EE

    4. Unlocking part done! Reset your device and your Mio should boot into a new unlock shell:

    Give this a try:
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Extract on an empty sd card which can be read by the Moov 200
    Put sd in Moov and reset the device.
    Turn on and see what is happen.
    Push iGO button.

    If iGO start up first only add the map of your country in:
    iGO8/content /map
    Voice in iGO8/content/voice
    language in iGO8/content/lang

    Test again.
    If it works add more stuff of your needs

    Thanks to janch for unlock

    Good solution, but not very suitable for Moov 200. I prefer direct run of iGO8 at boot, without any unlock menu, because Mio Moov 200 has only 32 mb RAM so running unlock menu in background can cause unstable behaviour. Also, use iGO8 without .dem files, 3d buildings, skins etc..

    How to run iGO8 directly on Mio boot:

    1. Copy folder iGO8 on the root of Mio flash disk
    2. Edit appstartupsec.ini (located in \Program Files\MioMap\)

    [Process1]
    RelativePath=False
    ProcessFile=\\..\\My Flash Disk\\iGO8\\iGO8.exe
    ProcessCmdLine=
    ProcessDbgFile=
    ProcessDbgCmdLine=
    MaxRestarts=3
    Major=TRUE
    WindowName=MioMap
    MaxCloseMessages=10

    3. Edit iGO8 sys file:

    [gps]
    port="2"
    baud="57600"

    [interface]
    laneinfo_signpost_enabled=1
    resolution_dir="320_240"
    show_exit=0
    show_minimize=0

    [rawdisplay]
    highres=0
    screen_x=320
    screen_y=240

    [power]
    skip_suspend_process=1
    skip_resume_process=1
    skip_suspend_process_all=1
    skip_resume_process_all=1
    backlight_manage_values = 1
    backlight_max = 100
    backlight_min = 0
    backlight_methods = 39

    If you want to use content from SD card, than just cut folder CONTENT form iGO8 and paste it on the root of a SD card and add this lines into sys:

    [folders]
    content="\Storage Card\Content"

    Hi janch,

    You are completely right.
    But in that way it is not Unlocking MIO completely from SD without changing the original software.
