Default Map update failure on DNX6990HD

New user here looking for some assistance. I paid for and downloaded the Garmin map update (City Navigator® North America NT 2015 Map Update for Kenwood ) and followed the instructions.
I first updated the head unit software to version 1.14.0
I then started the process to update the maps (via USB stick) and all seemed going well but at the end, a message appeared saying update failed - restart unit to complete update.
I restarted the update and noticed my map display was not as it should be. I tried to apply the update again and a message now pops up saying there's not enough space on the head unit to perform the update and to contact Kenwood.
Is there something I can do to free up the space required or do I need to visit a service center? I'm assuming the first update attempt used and locked up the required space.

Kenwood support pointed me to this site and this thread in particular but not sure if it applies to my situation - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    .
Many thanks in advance for yor assistance.

Lol really???? They should make some donations here
Is'nt it sad they don't know how to support their users and to solve their customers problems ?
    It's really incredible
I think probably ORAK will give you all the help you need as soon as he'll read this thread.

    ^^^ Thanks!

Garmin just responded and suggested that I could load the data onto an SD card and run it from there. I'll have to try that. I don't mind this workaround as I didn't ever use the slot. Would be nice to have everything work as it did though prior to the attempted update. I look forward to hearing from ORAK.

So loaded the data onto a microSD card and it works well. A little relieved I can still use the unit but would like to hear of any possible fixes to free up the internal memory to accept the update.

I am very busy, i'm working the night shift.
I hope to be as yours DNX6990HD these steps.
Your device must be disassembled and on the motherboard Garmin, It is a reader microSD Card with a memory (I hope).

Attach a guidance document and mode of operation:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I do not have time to make a translation of this document, which is in Italian.

If the motherboard Garmin it's the same, will get help and instructions in English.
    Just confirm.

    Attention!!!!
Everything you do, you do so at your own responsibility.
I am not responsible for yours errors, mistakes and damage created and ......
Do not delete and does not change of internal memory Garmin.
