Catymag, thanks for posting this link. In fact, I was going to reference exactly this one due to my lack of knowledge on what could be obvious for most. I have lived until today without a smart phone and I intend to use this one exclusively as a GPS for MC trips (still trust my Nokia C2 for everything else).

I managed to do the steps up to 3, that is, creating the directory "content" and copying stuff there (after learning how to install and use a file manager in android). At step 4 it becomes a bit confusing for me: the author mentions a "content" folder in the iGo installation that I don't seem to have. There could be tree structure difference between the version he used to write the guide and what is available now. Also, I did the standard iGo installation from Google Play, so if it is really needed to be installed in root, I will know very soon.
What does he mean with a map folder filled with basemap?

Then in step 5, where is this "sys.txt" file to be found? Then the "global_cfg" mention... what is it? A file, a folder?

I appreciate any guidance on these steps that are not clear to me, which might be quite obvious to most due to previous experience.

    sys.txt is
    /data/data/com.nng.igo.primong.igoworld/
You have to have root on your device to get there.

I purchased the Europe license and read all those guides on which people mention the directory "content", however, this version seems to have a slightly different directory tree. Data is in (full path on my Galaxy J3):

    Phone/Android/data/com.nng.igo.primong.igoworld/files/privdocs/InnappShop/Mount

Within Mount there are folders like: map, phoneme, poi, speedcam, and a file called "copy" (???).
What should be the directory structure in the SD card and what should be copied to it? I also see pretty much all posts about it mentioning the file "sys.txt".

    Any light on that?
    Within Phone/Android/data/com.nng.igo.primong.igoworld/files/
you can make yourself folder content, with known structure within, and use your prefered maps. You can made folder ux also, to put some additional options.

    nextgen

Back to stock (cracked) version of iGO navigation -
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
In zip is everything original (sys.txt, data.zip, ux folder, whole content folder) like on legal play store version except cracked 9.18.27.655384_iGO_NEXTGEN.apk...

So you need only to add maps/poi and licences (Mega_Free_1_Year_Update_FEU_NQ_2016_Q2.lyc & Mega_Free_1_Year_Update_FEU_NQ_2016_Q2(2).lyc) for that content and that's it !
Also look at iGO_NextGen\content\lang & iGO_NextGen\content\voice and delete languages & voices which you do not use !

Latest HERE maps/poi and other content can be found here - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Catymag:
I have done part of the home work, i.e., downloaded the latest basemap and global_cfg. Basemap is copied to where that post pointed, in content/map of the internal memory and not the SD.
Global_cfg, where should I unpack it to? I have read the referred threads but where we download the file, there seems not to have a reference of where to unpack to. My ignorance with smart phones is taking its toll now.

    WOB:
I see your screenshot of /data/data... my file structure is nowhere near as that, I mean, my igo directory doesn't have all these files. I have searched for "sys.txt" and there isn't any.
And in regards to the apk you linked, is it required to this trick of moving the data to SD card? At the moment I use the standard installation from Google Play.

Thanks a lot for your patience and assistance, we are a few steps closer every day.

This apk use same structure of app installation as Google Play version. You just don't need to buy any content! You can use any maps you want. Google Play original also has on SD Card files in folders Android/data and Android/obb. In obb is base content of app, packed in two files

Just to let you guys know you need to edit the folder name to "iGO_NextGen" and put it in the root folder of your phone.

Also the final folder/files tree should look like this:
