new North American Branding (Update March 2020)

Hi everyone. I've been playing around with my own icons, and then figured out how to make my own branding. (Some things are really fu**ed up inside the zip, so don't look )I only have gas stations, fast foods, and department stores, but I will continue to add categories. I currently have around 550 icons, and there must be around 1200 to make(If I do absolutely EVERY sub-category).

I have simply made round icons with a little shadow. For gas stations I have made realistic marquis, but may change them to round icons.

Comments(good or bad) questions and icon requests are welcome. I hope it all works.

    NOTE:
EDIT:Previous versions did not work on PRIMO 2.4 or NewGen, so you guys would have to try it and let me know if you get it working. This branding works on 1.2 EDIT: I have it working on 2.0(9.6.13.267029 and 9.6.13.405512)
Delete poi_visibilities.txt in your "save" folder. Update your global_cfg.zip
Only 800_480 resolution available. (maybe it works on other resolutions but I haven't tried it).
Most icons are disabled. Make sure you enable to show on map.

Looking forward to seeing this completed. I'll have to try what you have so far. Thanks

    New version.

Added Restaurants and cafe/bar. I also made the gas icons a little bigger.
If you can believe it, Red Lobster is categorized under "fast food"

Bugs: I don't know why, but WalMart wasn't showing up as an icon, maybe it was just me.

Vacation is coming up soon, so I will be busy before then with work and other projects. That means there may not be an update soon. At least we have SOME icons (around 750). :D
I estimate I will have another 800 icons to finish the shopping and Restaurant categories.

Tried it out, Walmart is showing icon that says Turbo on it.
I like the gas station ones, but one like McDonalds etc seem out of place as they are pretty big

When you get the chance, anything I can do to help out? I have been dabbing into this and graphics don't seem to be an issue but just understanding the link between what classifies the POI and where it actually is linked to is another story.. Glad to help out if I can.

To link the icon to the poi is as easy as just changing it from the standard blue pin (or the ones that I made) to the corresponding icon. Then it is saved to a file in your saved folder called poi_visiblities.txt. When I am satisfied with the icons, I just copy the poi_visiblities.txt to the branding.zip.

I goofed up a little though. The file inside the branding starts at number 1, but it should start at number 0. Because of this, the icon and poi don't match up in the poi_visiblities.txt. Just a minor flaw with my branding, but I wlll fix it in an upcoming version. It doesn't affect it in anyway.

Hi zzyzxroad, I really would like to get your branding.zip to work on my Primo 2.4 (9.6.13.267029). I simply replaced my original branding.zip file with your branding.zip. I am using 800x480 resolution, am I missing anything else?

Unfortunately, I am getting an error "failed to open file $poi_mapdistance.bmp...." as soon as it tries to display any of the poi icons on my map. My Primo works perfectly with my original branding.zip file which contains only one file "branding.ini".

    Thanks

That's very odd as the branding doesn't have that icon in it. That icon would be in the data.zip. I believe I had a similar problem before, and the data.zip was missing this icon. See if it's in there.

    EDIT:

It just so happens I have that version on my computer and the file is in there(without the dollar). One thing, no icons are named with the dollar sign in front so I'm not sure why it gives that error.

One thing to try:In windows explorer, copy that file (remember there's no dollar sign) from your data.zip/ui_igo9/800_600 folder to your desktop. Rename it by adding the dollar sign. Copy the file back to the original location. this icon is just the regular poi icon. The branding icons won't show if they are 10 miles in the distance, they will show this little one until you are closer to the poi.

This looks like fantastic stuff, thanks for taking the time to create these icons. I'm trying to get it to work on my Chinese (Eonon) double DIN unit. I'm running iGo Primo 2.4.

If I look at my own original Branding.zip file, it just contains a single "branding.ini" file, with nothing but software credits--nothing that seems to be anything in the way of a "setting". However, when I download your Branding.zip file, it has a similar branding.ini file, but also a /ui_igo9 folder, which contains four folders: Common, 800_480, defaults, and ICONS. My original iGo Primo 2.4 installation also has a /ui_igo9 folder (contained in the /content folder), but it only holds an 800_480 subfolder--none of the others. So...to install your icons, do I just copy the contents of your Branding.zip's "ui_igo9" folder to the contents of my own ui_igo9 folder? Or is there some other steps I have to do?

I thought it was just "replace your own Branding.zip with this downloaded Branding.zip", but I got all sorts of errors when I tried that, which makes sense I suppose, given that their content is different....?

    What error are you getting?

I should also note that I'm using WinCE. There is a Branding maker named KasteL, and he has 2 different downloads for his Branding. WinCe and Android. I haven't yet looked at the difference, but apparently there is. Try overwriting your branding.ini over mine.

    EDIT:
I'm looking into both of your problems, probably the same. I haven't a clue why it isn't working. One possibility is to overwrite the branding.ini as stated above. Another possibility is within the poi_visibilities.txt. The first line in mine is "|root", and in other branding it's "|root|0"

Try changing this. at the moment I don't have a gps running Android, so I can't help with that. If its WinCE, I guess I have to look a little deeper. Let me know if anything works.
