    help Trying to get iGO to work on BV9386NV DoubleDin Unit

    I recently bought and had installed a BOSS audio BV9386NV radio with GPS (because it came with iGO 8.3 and I thought I would be able to customize it) but BOSS really screwed up the app when they customized it for their hardware.

    Version Navigation Software: 8.3.5.329067 Dated: Sep 11, 2013
    The iGo executable is named: MobileNavigator.exe

    Here is a link to the unit and some detail:
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    So far, this is mostly just a wish list, I guess, the RDS / TMC does not work either.
    I live in Dallas, TX and am pretty sure, there are radio stations here broadcasting that...

    It is missing the driving mode "always face up" and it does not save settings in 2D mode so that each time you start it, you have to re-configure all the settings (zoom for example). The 3D mode does save settings, but it can not zoom out much.
    Also, having to accept warning each time it starts is stupid.

    I opened a ticket with their so-called "tech support" but they seem to be brain dead. Perhaps a popcorn stand would be better suited for them. No response yet, and from what I have read, that may be as good as it gets.

    When I imaged the 4GB SDHC card to another card, the system would not recognize it. Okay, so the app or licenses is locked to the CID of the card. Took another card and copied my iGO8 installation from a $49 Sylvania windows CE based unit and then tried that. Got that error message "THe application failed to start last time. Do you want to reset to factory defaults ....". Whether you pick yes or No, neither works.

    I suspect that something besides what is on the external SDHC card is looking for something on the card. The radio is based on WinCe I am sure.

    Any ideas on how I can unlock this so that it will run any version of iGO ?

    Hi,
    By clicking on link provided I got Error 404: Not Found.
    From Your description I'm not sure, but it seems that program is located on SD card.
    If it is, try to download any of Windows CE versions that supports device's resolution, put it on SD card and rename iGO.exe (or Primo.exe) to MobileNavigator.exe.
    Look original folder structure on SD card, and create same on new one.
    If device is compatible with program, and most of them are, it should work.
    If there are other folders and files on original that don't belong to navigation, just copy them to SD card.

    Seems I found a version that works. I also reformatted the replacement card with the SDformatter program and created the "save" folder before using. Don't know if those made a difference since I did them all at the same time. Can also use the map files that came with the head-unit by copying them to the map folder but turns out they are from 2013. Here is the link to the mfgr website:
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    From their description, it seems that the unit supports TMC through the use of RDS or somehow, yet the iGO software does not detect any stations. It did not work with the original program either.
    I copied these lines from the sys.txt to the replacement sys.txt:

    [tmc]
    internal_tmc_name="gnsport"
    source="gnsport"
    port="COM,7"

    If the radio says that it supports RDS do I need a separate antenna for that function?

    I'm glad that device is functional now.
    You can find newer maps here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], just look through thread an find most suitable.
    I can't help You with TMC, but I know that RDS is not the same thing.
    Hope someone else will be able to help with that

    I am not American but I know this.

    RDS is traffic information by radio announcement. When the radio station that broadcasts traffic information announces that info, it also broadcast a signal that activates RDS (or is RDS, I am not techncal either). Then the traffic announcement from that station is on speaker, whatever other radio station was playing or whatever sound source (like CD) is active. Everything else is interrupted and only traffic information, which is louder than normal sound, is active.

    And TMC in the States needs, besides the correct settings, extra licenses I think, because AFAIK it's a normal paid service.
    Not 100% sure, however.

    RDS is the initialism for 'Radio Data System', it's used in all developed countries and is a method of embedding digital data silently into conventional FM radio sound broadcasts. It can be used for many sub-carrier uses and one of those is TMC, initialism for Traffic Message Channel. So, in a simplified way TMC is RDS or at least one important use of FM RDS and although more commonly used in FM RDS, Traffic Message Channels can also be found in Satellite Radio and DAB in UK, EU for example and Digital Radio in NA. A specifically enabled dual purpose or standalone receiver is required to receive and process the messages and give alerts. An example of an standalone receiver is a car charger/TMC receiver for GPS receivers such as TT and Garmin which will only receive and decode the TM Channels for which it's programmed.

    That's great explanation friends, but I don't know how to use this to solve problem, because if there is any kind of TMC receiver, dual RDS/TMC or dedicated separate TMC, and it is as it was configured in old sys.txt file, program must be able to communicate with it somehow to activate it and to get info from it.
    So program must have configuration (COM port, baud, ...) and at last there must be license for specific region and provider.
    It would be good to copy appropriate parts of sys.txt and all licenses from old program to new.
    So jusertx, please upload as attachment RAR archive of complete old sys.txt and old license folder to see what could be used to make it work.

    Specific Info in full explanation:

    From the Boss audio product page you linked, under Extra Features:
    "Additional maps are available for purchase from h ttps://www.naviextras.com/shop/portal (please check availability for your area map before purchasing this unit)".

    I think the problem is simply that TMC is not offered as a subscription in NA by that supplier, Naviextras:
    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    Don't feel too disadvantaged, it's not offered for AU/NZ or in most other parts either, for instance there's subs for UK, France, Slovenia, Hungary & Turkey but that's it for EU:
    Code:
    Please Login or Register to see the links
    Clearly the unit itself is capable of receiving RDS signals [one such RDS function is for cover art and song title/artist details, but not always, and always Station ID which presumably is working]. As i said before, TMC is but one other RDS function however the receiver has to be programmed to receive and decode those specific TMC signals. Where it's free that's no problem, but otherwise you have to buy and activate any available subscription for the receiver to be programmed to decode the signals. So, if the map supplier or any other source doesn't sell the subs or it's not a free service in your area you've clearly got a problem.
    Is that unit using TT mapping data? Maybe a TT traffic sub would work if it is ....?

    If the radio says that it supports RDS do I need a separate antenna for that function?
    No. It receives RDS over the standard FM band embedded in the normal sound broadcasts via the vehicle antenna. If you're getting Station ID and 'now playing' details then RDS is working. Look in the manual for Radio Mode or similar listing and then info for RDS or Radio Data System and also TA/Traffic Announcements, TP/Traffic Program or TMC to see if it gives any specific info about traffic subscriptions.
