I'm in the middle ground with gun rights. I like private ownership of guns to protect family (and maybe occasional target shooting); but I don't want "silly gun right laws" to allow easy access to mass killing by sane or insane people. I also don't want law enforcements to be overwhelmed or overburden with laws that allow "assault weapons" and "large capacity clips." But I really don't like it when some states say no and other states say yes; so it has to be a federal law for all. I shot a bird in the eye with BB gun when I was young and felt sorry enough to gave it a good burial (no flushing down toilet)

I'm a bit 'twixt and between' myself. I don't like that anyone can buy a 'saturday night special' virtually from the local hardware shop sure. Until recently, i've owned no less than one rifle at any time since i was 16 years old [got a 2nd-hand single shot Ruger .22 rimfire as a Birthday present] and i'd had an air rifle prior to that since before i was 10. But i was bought up 'in the sticks', guns were part of our very existence. Now it'd be considered 'child abuse' to bring kids up that way, even in the bush i suppose. So until recently I've had a gun handy for almost half a century, during which time i did ~30 years part-time Military Service where i ran range practices and gave countless weapons lessons from Browning pistol to M60 machine gun. What did that teach me? This: most ppl shouldn't be allowed near a gun without doing a serious weapons course and be required to join a gun club with a range suitable for their weapon of choice and do a minimum of two supervised qualification shoots annually to maintain proficiency and keep their weapons licence. How would that suggestion go down in the Panhandle? Not well i reckon. Having let my civvie shooter's licence and gun club membership go i can no longer legally have a gun in my home. I still feel slightly naked without one honestly, but .... it's all for 'the greater good'.

Dammit Iggy! Who's getting the other 95% ffs??

Mate, you shouldn't ask Texans questions like that, it's actually quite insensitive: Anyone from that State is gonna have unsolvable problems and not of his own doing.

Pssst! O! Just cut him some slack pardner, he's not a real Aussie, he's from West Australia ...

Well then I guess my 7 guns, 4 rifles and 1000 .223 rounds is a little much for home protection But no fear, I only fired 3 of those guns (so far) and haven't shoot them for over 10 years. What's important is that I still remember the training I took when I got my CSL 20 years ago; so if the world is going to ****, I'm prepare. The problem with guns in an area that have no restriction is that many people don't take it seriously and act carefully around it. We get "accidental* shooting" at least once a year and countless stupid acts that put the "2nd admendment" to shame. The "RIGHT to bear arms" really needs to be changed to "it's a PRIVILEGE to bear arms," so people don't take it for granted.

There wasn't any offence intended by either him or me actually anyway, maybe that's why you didn't understand it. Just silly joshing both sides, Iggy & me, and half the time we really don't understand each other either. i.e.: 'That's a joke, ah say, that's a joke son'.

Holy Toledo Batman! It's only a silly rumour [sorry, rumor] that Mexico is gonna invade! [You have 7 handguns? I'm impressed, and also now a little scared of you [i mean how can you possibly conceal so many on you at the same time. You must be really BIG, eh?].

If OK sends their defective Sheriff Deputies over the border you'll have a need for all your weapons to be at the ready though. Ah'm gonna tazer you son, ah say, that's no joke son! *BANG* .... Opps!

PS: CSL? I know that as 'can't stop laughing'. Maybe it's 'combat support level' in US Military, but that's really only a gamers expression isn't it?

I always wear pants with BIG pocketS, I would think 7+4 guns would be normal for a Texans Didn't need that much, just like collecting them. HK, Ruger, Glock, Beretta, Remington...oh my. I still need a 1911 and AK for my collection; haven't been to any gun show for more than 15 yrs now. I was prepared for Y2K, but nothing happen...so disappointing. Still it's a good investment, guns price have steadily been increasing.

Edit: Why smiley are large in some posts and small in others?

Colt 1911 is not much different mechanically to the Browning Hipower i used in the Aust Army, .45 vs 9mm chambering is the big difference. Hard to believe that the 1911 [called that because that's the year when it was first released] has been around basically unchanged for well over 100 years. Wot a weapon!

You mean this or and this or i guess. See next post. Can't do a typing demo of them in the same post.

small smiley type this :) or for wink this ;) big smiley type this :)) or ;)) Also, you can click the Smiley Button above the text reply box and get the full selection of smileys to use.

You can disable smileys in advanced editor so they appear like they're actually typed in a post instead of having the image which is what i've done in this post to demonstrate the difference.
