Default Genuine, but slightly embarrassing, question

    Dear reader,

I will be working in a high threat environment in the coming months. I have accordingly been looking at anti-kidnap measures, that would let potential rescuers know my grid. I was hoping that there would be some sub-skin RFID solution (not knowing much about these things) but have realised that some kind of conventional GPS device is the best way forward.

In a kidnap situation any competent kidnapper will likely remove all possessions including any gps devices from the victim as close as possible to capture. I considered getting some kind of non removable gps bracelet, but have not been able to find any such device. Moreover, the likelihood is that the kidnappers would merely amputate the relevant limb.

I have therefore been forced to consider buying a small device and "install" it in a body cavity, in a similar manner to a drugs mule. Sorry if thats a distasteful thought. My question, quite a serious one, is before i spend the money on the device, do you think the gps device would work being located on the inside of a human body.

Look forwards to your thoughts and approbation ...

G'day broadside. Welcome to GPSPower. Interesting choice of nick, seeing as you'll need one of those if your mused "install" location is where i think it is ...

A 'conventional' GPS device isn't what you want [e.g. Garmin, TT] of course. You'd be likely referring to some kind of miniature GPS tracking device, similar to or of the type you use to track kids, pets etc. I wouldn't like to think about trying to stick even the smallest of those commercially available units 'back there' anyway ... brrr! I reckon the kidnappers might have a quick sift thru your 'leavings' anyway. As to whether one of those things would actually work 'inside', i really doubt it would get a proper fix or be able to TX it's locstat satisfactorily either from .. up there .. One way to find out, know any gentle proctologists with a sense of humour?

Failing that, maybe buy some spook from MI5 a few drinks. I bet they've worked out how to do it.

Good luck Mate. Sorry for the levity, no offence taken i hope. I genuinely wish you success with this and a safe return from whatever hellhole you're heading off to.

IMHO its just not possible: a GPS tracking device would need to power the GPS receiver and a transmitter.
How can you think to charge that device battery?
Anyway I wouldn't like to have my sons “chipped like dogs”.

A mobile GPS tracker needs mobile Network/Internet access to relay your position. Mobile phone "Jammers" are cheap and plentiful. If I'm the kidnapper this is one gadget I'll be hanging around your neck... Your gadget may never work.

    Stay safe and be safe.

That's indeed an interesting and noble intention. Besides very needed in several areas of this kind of crazy world.
There is this device sometime ago I found on the Internet that could give you ideas. You'll probably find more by googling "micro gps" tracker.

I don't know who makes it but a deep search might bring some lights.

    Regards.
