Not scared off, just having a bit of a sulk over you finding another aussie to buddy up with ... [so NOT!]. Good to see you and Mags playing nice together in your crib Melv and i see Mags is posting in readable english too. I wonder how long that will last and which will go west first, the nice play or reversion to unintelligible dialect? Now go wash your hands you two.

About your 'Hey, ya gotta talk faster' comment for the 276C. You may be able to speed up the voice by modification of the WAV files in it. Have a look in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], scroll down to Garmin Voices & Voices Management Tools where you'll find tools to split voice files into the individual underlying WAV files of spoken words and phases ['Turn left', etc]. The speed can be increased and even words/phrases substituted. Various other softwares are available to work with speed and WAV file manipulation like Audacity and i've also used Wave Repair for that. However, your 276C doesn't have VPM voice files in a 'Voice' folder visible in Mass Storage Mode like modern devices. The voices are contained in a specific region, most probably rgn17 [hex 0x11] and you'd need to dump that region using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (details on Page 4) and then try to modify the voice. You'll probably need expert help for that so if you want to try it best post a new thread in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] section.

It might be handy seeing you're thinking of an new device as it brings that versatile unit into the modern age and much of the operation will be familiar to you.

Also there are some in-dash navi units capable of using Topo maps, so google around if you're serious about that.

    He he Neil good one.
Actually a work M8 has a Nuvi in his work supplied vehicle and I used it to day, that sits in that car for hours in the direct sun and have jumped in and said hey Raja we're off to a job and pushed the buttons and said lets get lost with this GPS and off we go Aircon on Windows open and sweating for say half K then wind up windows etc and enjoy. Will try to remember and get the model of his Nuvi, he uses the Google app on his phone now, that works well too.
Anyway nuff said topic needs to stay on Topic.

PS: may need to change topic title to: how many GPS devices do you have and what you use them for. HUH
So long as you 2 don't go to far OFF Topic hummm.

PSS: I got to the place with the GPS, and I followed the third Tech out but he got away from me and I turned right and had this feeling things were wrong said to Raja think we are going the wrong way the Sun is in the wrong place "he was totally lost" so I turned right at a road I knew and at a few traffic lights set the GPS again and Raja was happy. There ya go Raja would I ever leave you lost in a City.

    "He he Neil good one."

Laughing at Neil's jokes is a sign of bad character.

" jumped in and said hey Raja we're off to a job..."

Who's Raja, or is that just something u call people in general? Either way I think I'll steal that line if u don't mind. Thanks.

"topic needs to stay on Topic."

    Oh now they tell me!

FYI Raja is a work M8 "Singapore Indian" he is an Electronic Tech and repairs TV's and stuff. He's a young 61 yr old and gets lost when I head out to a job that needs my Expertise, especially when we head North of the river. "I'm 64yrs young"
I still haven't got the model of that Nuvi yet.

Yep Melvin ya need to remember the thread topic and stay with in it.

While I'm at it further to my uses of my GPS devices "and the fact of why "I don't have a tell me to go where" if you can't save that trip and introduce it to some other Navigation Software" Here comith the GPS Software OziExplorer.
First pic is a Topographical map of part of Western Australia showing the GPS track logs.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

You will notice some tracks that go over water, I did a flight to Sydney and logged it on my Etrex.
There is a track above them in the right hand lower corner, that is the Missus and I doing a short jornt to Melbourne 3300Km away.
Show me another GPS that can supply this Info and I May buy it, A M8 has an VMS unit that has OZi installed but it is so slow and a pain in the Butt am not buying one of them.

The next pic is a Geological map showing the same tracks but is more detailed in the Gold and Minerals Field.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The next pic is a Mining Tenement Map of a part of a map with the same tracks.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
You will also notice a small box bottom right that is an overview of the whole map, and the red box shows the section of the map am showing.

I down load from the Mines Department the full map @ 250k:1 and calibrate it and reduce the file size to a point that I can use it on my devices with the best detail I can.

Next map is a Google Earth with same tracks.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Now my GPS tracking has only been since 2000 all my other Map Tracking has been by paper maps whether Road/Geological or Cardastial Maps 'military maps' so I have been able to find my way around OZ with out to much trouble "and the Missus is a good map reader too."
Oh I have been to the FNQ and other places too.
    End of mmmm TUT
