Like i said, doesn't look too hopeful, but lets try something else also with sd card seeing you can access preboot. Extract the 2 RAR files to find folders 'Updater' and 'Garmin':

    • In Updater folder, drag 097201000630.rgn onto Updater.exe to open GUI and leave it open and visible with 'USB Device' radio button selected.
    • Copy Garmin folder to root of a clean microSD and insert it in device.
    • Put it into preboot in usual way by holding screen upper LH crn and connecting to PC.
    • Press OK on Updater.exe GUI when device details appear in window.
    • Keep holding screen until 'Loader' appears [hopefully it will this time] and let it finish the flash.
    • Post the backup14.bin if successful.

    Thanks for your quick reply!
I did the above as you suggested, unfortunately, still could not get the backup14.bin from the micro SD card

At initial pre-boot... I get "SOFTWARE UPDATING" on screen before it flashes and reboots then throws the initial error message I was originally getting, after several tries, I tried to do something different - as soon as I Press OK on Updater.exe GUI when device details appear in window, on the Updater displays the windows on my computer Updating software... I press the "Cancel" button, after 10 seconds, on the Nuvi - it displays 'Loader', but stays like that for a long time - I did as you suggested thou, letting go of the screen when 'Loader' appears, and another time not letting go - it does not make a difference, it just stays on that screen, with 'Loader', if I drag 097201000630.rgn onto Updater.exe to open GUI again while it is displaying this 'Loader', the Updater.exe does show that the device is in preboot and available in the 'USB device', but upon clicking 'OK' it throws that initial error message instantly and goes back to the normal bootloop with the 'Loader' disappeared off the screen

I checked the micro SD card afterwards, no new files were created - only has the Garmin folder

I'm quite sure now that it has a damaged flash. Sorry, maybe someone else has other things to try but i'm all out.

Try to flash an old version in pre boot mode (not cure)

I was just thinking about doing that - no harm in trying now that it is refusing to flash the latest version... is there anyway of acquiring the old version firmware?
I can only get the latest version from the Garmin website.
I also looked and searched this forum extensively, but all related posts on older versions point to the Garmin website, which they removed and are dead links

    Good luck!

Unfortunately, same result with the two older versions as well - I did exactly as described, not curing them, and even with curing, with no difference to the initial issue

Unfortunately going by your reported experiences it cannot flash at least one particular memory region, prob that's rgn14 [0x0E] where fw_all.bin is stored and it's the main unit software. That's what i mean by damaged flash. Therefore if that's so, the result is always going to be the same regardless of the fw version used.

Another thought, i had the impression that you'd tried [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but on re-reading your first post it seems i'd misunderstood that. If you haven't tried it you may as well do so now. It doesn't involve the original fw at all. There's also a flasher version:
