Hello - trying to unbrick my wife's Nuvi 54. I followed all instructions, downloaded the .gcd file for nuvi40and50_GCD. I run GarminCure3, and it generates a .rgn file. But when I click on "updater.exe", I get an error - can't run and the path name. I am running the program in administrator mode. Any suggestions?

Okay - the .rgn file was generated in a new directory - GarminCure3_TEMP, so I copied that .rgn file up one level into the same directory as updater.exe, and it ran okay. Put Nuvi 54 into pre-boot mode, connected USB, and updater recognized my device. when I clicked okay, got error saying Garmin device is not responding. I re-tried several times, and eventually, got a dialogue box saying no updates available, which implies that my .gcd file may be wrong. I got it from here:

    The correct firmware is this:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
nuvi 54 is a re-badged 52 [HWID 1613] not a re-badged 50 [HWID 1350]. Right clicking on the above page and selecting 'View Source' or similar from the context menu opens a new window with this in it:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Use that to make your cure fw and it will load ok.

    Thanks to Smokefree,

Used this tutorial to unbrick nuvi 2460. Took several tries and various .gcd files until one worked. Computer recognized nuvi, I formatted and downloaded new files.

    Great site.

Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated!

    Hi,

first, thanks are in order for the making of this tutorial.

I managed to follow everything up until the "installation" of the cure on the device. I have a Garmin nuvi 1350 that is stuck in a boot loop. I am at the step where you connect it to the computer, the updater software recognizes it but when i click ok, i get the message in the attached picture.

Does anybody know what i am doing wrong ?

    Thanks

Bootlooping units can be tricky to hold in preboot mode. That message means that it's exited preboot, so timing is crucial and that means a bit of luck and a lot of perseverance comes into play. You need to start the flash at the right moment so you may need dozens of attempts, usually best results are achieved by hitting 'OK' or the Enter key immediately you see the unit details appear in Updater.exe's GUI and keeping firm steady pressure on the upper LH cnr of the screen until at least 'Loader' appears on the screen.. Keep trying, if you can see the logo you can achieve flashing in preboot eventually.

Note that there are two HWIDs for 13x0 devices, 0972 and 1104 [MTK chip version] so be sure you have made the cure from the correct fw for yours.

    Hi Guys,
I can't seem to flash the cure firmware to my Garmin Nuvi 1490, in order to unbrick my GPS.
Initially, my Garmin was working fine, then one day it started playing up and got into a bootloop, where it just shows the Garmin boot screen, then reboots after approx. 20 seconds.

I have carefully followed the instructions as outlined in this forum, tried on various computers (Windows 7 and Windows 10).

I am able to successfully get into the pre-boot mode, and flash the cure firmware, but on this screen, after stating that its updating, it then shows "Erasing..." for approx 10 seconds:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

then shows up this error "The GARMIN device is unable to program the requested memory region. This could be due to an incompatibility between this application and the GARMIN device"
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I have doubled checked every step carefully and ensured that I did download and use the correct firmware for this model, hopefully - its something of a quick fix or something. Please help!
