The varying colour background is only it switching from day to night mode. Do you mean that there is no green bar with 'OK' on it in white letters at base of screen?By the time it got to me it would just freeze on the 'select locale' screen.
The screen is black with a blue stripe at the top where it says select locale.
The centre of the screen has the various countries that you can scroll through by pressing the screen to th eleft and right of the country text. nowhere else on the screen can be pressed to cause anything else to happen.
Occasionally the black background will be white.
Almost certainly not a battery/charge problem. Keep the one you swapped out.I have tried fitting a new battery and charging but its the same.
What do you mean 'no good'? Did it not update it or did it do so but change nothing?I've removed all the files from the mass storage (?) except the GarminDevice.xml and then had the webupdater reinstall. No good.
As it has Mass Storage Mode to access the file system it doesn't need cure firmware. Stop with that presently.I have read the advice here and downloaded GarminCure3 and Updater.
Are you sure it's the MKT chip variant? In the XML should be "<PartNumber>006-B1104-00</PartNumber>" near the start if it is a MediaTek chip unit. B0972-00 is the other more common one. Be careful that you use the correct fw, if you flash the wrong one you'll brick it properly.I have also downloaded nuvi13xxand14xxseries_GCDFile-MTK__630.gcd and created the .rgn files I think I need.
Use a different cable/different PC port [preferably a rear one, no hub]/different PC or OS. But regardless provided your info is accurate it sounds like you've not successfully flashed cure firmware and the original is still loaded. If so, you don't need preboot presently. Maybe later depending on what you report back after attempting reformatting. The problem is with pre boot mode.
I can get Updater to see the unit (most of the time) and it is indicated in the box. But on pressing OK i get a warning that the unit is in host or Garmin mode.
Occasionally it begins to make the installation but then fails.
Another time it states that no update is available.
G7ToWin is a good way to check if the unit is capable of reaching preboot because it relies on preboot to access the device. The response is normal if the device is NOT in preboot. Open G7ToWin first with the 'GPS' tab dropdown selected ready to press 'Get GPS ID', then put the 1340 in preboot by ensuring it's fully OFF [see below] and holding the top LH cnr THEN connect to PC and when you hear the Windows device-connect sound press 'Get GPS ID' and keep holding the screen. If if gives a message 'USB Error: WaitComplete: Error waiting for overlapped I/O' just click the OK button and it should still give the HWID and UID anyway.I have the HWID from the xml file but I thought I'd try G7towin to see if it would connect in reboot mode.
It does but the response is odd: 'USB bulk mode' and that the id is 0.
Reformat it with RMPrepUSB. Do it exactly as shown in the thread initial post: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Then try to boot it. 1xxx devices will boot empty, without even a Garmin folder but you can add one after formatting if you wish. Do try to hard reset if first though. Ensure it's fully OFF by holding the power button down to force it off if necessary, then hold the lower RH crn and power it on manually or connect it to a charger [not PC].The unit has hardly been used and it seems a shame to throw it away but I have wasted hours now and may be going insane.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
