Just like 'Some Girls', some Garmins do, some Garmins don't. [apologies to the band Racey]. I don't have a zumo to hand for testing but seeing SYSTEM definitively means a device is in preboot but not seeing it doesn't mean it ISN'T in many device types. You may see 'SYSTEM' or not, but the point is that if a flash is not initiated by Updater.exe it won't boot past the Logo splash screen and if not connected to PC will go to the white calibration screen in a predetermined time [anything from several seconds to a minute depending on device] and at that point it's exited preboot mode.

    I think it is done.
For preboot option i used the following methode
After loading the 179601000321.rgn with updater and choosing USB
    Zumo off
lower right corner screen push and hold
    connecting USB cable
after usb message in updater, press ok in updater while still pushing on screen (lower right corner) and keep pushing till firmware loading is complete and device reboots, then release screen and remove usb cable

Sorry for my bad english, but it seems to work.
many thanx and now i will test it and give some feedback

    in the meanwile a question.
what will happen if the 595 firmware will be upgrade with a newer version, same methode again?

Yes, if you wish to retain the 590's HWID of 1796 you must re-make hybrid firmware with latest 590 boot.bin combined with other components of latest 595 firmware, setting overrides in RGN_Tool as before.

Because it is identified by its HWID for firmware purposes, it would be given 590 firmware by GarminExpress or WebUpdater if there's a later version issued by Garmin higher than the version on the device. Therefore you must only update using that same [hybrid] method again [or to save that inconvenience, you could convert fully to 595 as per guide in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], at your own risk of course like all flashing described here].

    Thx for the help Neil

    Just one more question
    i see a newer version firmware zumo 590 (zumo590_330.gcd).
Wil the boot.bin different than the firmware i used (zumo590_320.gcd), or is the boot.bin just the startup and have no improvements?

Usually it's best to always use the latest firmware version or it's components and V3.30 for 590 was released on 26 July. It's boot.bin is larger by 4 kiB than 3.20. In this case however, unless the 595 firmware is updated from current version 3.20 there is definitely no need to make any changes. If 595 is given an update then use the latest 590 boot.bin and latest 595 fw_all.bin to make new hybrid fw if you do want to update.

Basecamp connecting just a communication error, but doesn't matter to me. because i use the locale maps on my pc, just an error for loading the maps from the device.
For me it's a huge advantage, because the loading is quicker.
Ik can copy routes, track poi's to my device the normal way.

In Garmin Expresss, the lifetime maps works ok
Just see a software version for the 590, so i presume the "walk back' is to install the 590 software with Garmin Express?
However, i will test everything in the next 2 weeks, for now it seems a little bit quicker then the 590 software.

Yes, that or update with WebUpdater will flash it straight back to 590. There are other ways too of course, copy new fw gupdate.gcd file to Garmin folder, or drag the GCD file onto WebUpdater icon on desktop or it's exe. Also RGN file via Updater.exe of course.
