help Garmin Nüvi 1490 dead after Firmware Update 6.2 to 6.3

Hi, I just did a firmware update to v6.3 (and the GUPDATE.GCD file was as usual visible in the device).

Now when I try to power up the 1490 I first see the big Word 'Garmin', then the usual 'copyright 2012...' hints... and that's it... screen turns to black/off... I can try as often as possible... always the same behaviour...

    Any suggestions?

If you mean that you still have Mass Storage Mode and can see the internal files then delete the gupdate.gcd and try to boot it. If it can't access MSM then cure it: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Hm, I just did a second attempt to get Firmware v6.3 on my Nüvi 1490... I put the gupdate.gcd file as usual into the .system Folder... and... again a brick... I unbricked the 1490 once again... reverting back to version 6.2....

I even did a binary comparison with this file:
    Code:

    ... it's identical... so it's the correct GCD-File...

Any clue why my 1490 always bricks when I try to upgrade from v6.2 to v6.3 ?

v6.3 is not so important for me, because v6.2 works well since 3 years... but I am wondering why my 1490 always bricks when putting gupdate.gcd of v6.3 into the .system Folder... and then rebooting the 1490...

I now successfully flashed from v6.2 to v6.3 with GarminCure3.exe and updater.exe... but I am still wondering why it didn't work the usual 'gupdate.gcd way', see post above...?!?

    What is your device HWID?
What is the .gcd you flashed HWID?

    1) HWID? Is it the same as device-ID? ... which is. Removed

Use Rgntool to see .gcd HWID and check in garmindevice.xml for your nuvi HWID

Both (gcd HWID and garmindevice.xml of my nuvi) is 972:

Ok, I was afraid you flashed a wrong firmware because series 1xxx exist with 2 different HWIDs.
I removed your device id because it's not safe to publish it on forum.
I have no idea why new firmware bricks your device sorry.
Are you sure you don't have any other old, corrupted gupdate.gcd in your device/sd?
