    Default Nuvi 1490LMT problem

    Hi Gentlemen , lady`s ,

I have done a immense stupid thing.
I was in the proces to format an external drive but my Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT was also hooked to my pc.
By mistake i did not select the external drive but my Garmin to format and the worst thing is it was done in NTFS.
Now my Garmin keeps hanging in the startscreen with the garmin logo and my pc does not recognize my device annymore.

Do you know how to fix this or is it over and out now with my device

    Ty for your time.

Your unit should still be salvageable. Step by step tutorial here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Any questions, just post back.

Same 1490lmt unit . i formatted it and successfully un-bricked the device using the instruction ( in windows XP VM)
The last step is using garmin web updater...but device is not recognized by garmin web updater.

Did you flash original firmware into the nüvi? After reboot, garmindevice.xml should automatically be recreated.

    BTW: Welcome to GPS Power!

    Hi Smokefree,
I did flash the original (also formatted fat32 and copy a gupdate.gcd file with adjusted sw-version 631 into root://Garmin).
Webupdater recognized the device then after i did the update, device just keep rebooting...not recognizable anymore.
I am trying to re-do the same process again now
    Thank you for your input,
    FN.

Unless the flash chip is damaged, you should be able to bring your nüvi 1490LMT back to life again using the tutorial linked to in post #2.

It there's a Lifetime Map subscription associated with the GPS (as is suggested by the suffix 'LM'), then either Garmin Express or Garmin MapUpdater should be able to recognise the eligibility for such map once the GPS is recognised by either one of these applications.

Worst case scenario, you can use a map from our vast collection: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

i have no idea what wrong now. It is back to life, but whenever i use cable to connect it to the computer...it is not recognized (" accessory is not supported") so i can't use garmin express to load map into it.
This device is lifetime map update.
