    4) Copy the patcher in a directory along your firmware gupdate.gcd:
What directory? Shall I create a folder on the PC
Unrar the patcher in a directory and add inside the gupdate.gcd.
put gupdate.gcd in it along with the patcher files (4 files)?
    Yes.
    5) Drop the gupdate.gcd in its window. The patcher will provide the patched gupdate.gcd in your chosen directory.
    What window?
    Patcher window.

    Thank you.

Should I adjust firmware version number by.... something? or just browse and paste the new file?

It is not necessary, just install the firmware .rgn on your device. Altering the version, is only required when it is the same or of less than the installed version (installing without pre-boot and with gupdate.gcd..)

Ok Done. Reached level 8 and this is not working. I have the nuvicam LMHTD. When I press the screen, it shows me the word "system" on the top of the screen, then disappears after 10 seconds or so. Tried it like 5 times so far, some within the 10 seconds while others after. The unit is not rebooting and the window is not finding any USB device even though attached. Ideas/alternatives?

As soon as appears the System word on the screen, your Nuvicam should be identified in the USB Device field of Updater.exe. Give OK and wait for the end of the process, keeping your finger pressed on the screen

Installation incomplete, corrupted firmware. Again reinstall the firmware

You downloaded a firmware from the official site of Garmin? or from the .System folder of your device?
nuvi 2589 happens two types of HWID:
    Model: nuvi 25x9 ----- HWID: 1758
    Model: Nuvi 25x9 C4 ---- HWID: 1947
    maybe you made a mistake?
    be careful in the actions!
Model: nuvi 25x9 ----- HWID: 1758 and it was downloaded at official site, then I try also to patched the C4, but still no luck

Heed the warning above by catymag and earlier by Philipych and be very careful that you have the correct version firmware to start with:

Naming <any_name>.rgn will force a flash so your "nuvi2589_Patched.rgn" needs to be the matching HWID for your unit in absolute certainty. As warned by Philipych, EU 25x9 & 26x9 units both can have 2 different HWIDs so be sure you're using the correct one. If you have C4 HWID 1947 don't flash HWID 1758 firmware to it or vice versa.

Naming XXXX01000xxx.rgn as in the quote of post #4 above will prevent an incorrect fw being flashed, because if your unit's actual HWID doesn't match the first 4 numerals of the RGN file [as shown by RGN_Tool] the process will stall and you'll see a message that there's no update available for the device. There must be '01000' between the HWID and Software Version numerals, missing or changing one of those 5 characters causes a forced flash as with any other naming.

If you haven't already, check your actual HWID: Look at the 'Version Information' page in the hidden menu used for attaining preboot. Keep pressing 'Next'/lower RH corner of screen until you see that page, then 'Start Test'>'More' and look at second entry of top 3 lines: 'Bxxxx-00' where xxxx is HWID. Or, look at your unit's GarminDevice.xml found in it's 'Garmin' folder. Look for '<PartNumber>006-Bxxxx-00</PartNumber> after '- <Model>' near the start of the file.
