Alright. I appreciate any help. I read through this entire thread (twice actually) before I started anything. I downloaded all the required files and started the process. I remember seeing someone had a similar problem as me, but can't find any solution or they had a different FW version or something (this is a big thread). I have pulled the .GCD file from my DS60 LTM device after going into Mass Storage mode. Ran it through the Patcher found on Page one. Got a GUPDATE_Patched.GCD file. Ran it through the RGN Tool and this is what pops out. It does not recognize my HWID. See attached photo.

    Model: D&D Smart 60/70 | HWID: 2268 | SWVS: 410 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Strong | GVS: Yes

So I need to flash with the RGN file. But I am afraid of bricking the unit; Its right out of the box and has never seen time in a car! Do I manually enter in the HWID in the boot section? Or in the override section? I would like to hear someone's opinion on this before I move forward with the flash. Thank you all so much. My old tried and true Nuvi 680 finally had the antenna die on me and I bought a new Garmin unit. Boy have things changed in the past 11 years! Dropping unlocked image files used to be a snap. Now they are making it difficult!

EDIT: What makes this even more confusing is each model is different, and it's hard to follow a thread with dozens of different answers and not knowing what works in your scenario. I almost wish we had a subsection for each major Garmin type.

    Thanks everybody!

    Hi keith13b
Regarding the firmware for the devices Drive & Drive Smart 40/50 and Drive & Drive Smart 60/70 the RGN file can be successfully flashed without HWID written into Ldr.bin and fw_all.bin components in it, so you can flash your patched RGN with HWID 0.
No problem, as usual make the NV backup before flashing.
What makes this even more confusing is each model is different, and it's hard to follow a thread with dozens of different answers and not knowing what works in your scenario. I almost wish we had a subsection for each major Garmin type.
Drive & Drive Smart 40/50 and Drive & Drive Smart 60/70 only have this HWID 0 in RGN.
We are here to give support in case of problems We have threads for different models, see: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but this is the Patcher thread: easier and faster to get help here.

    @keith13b
Additionally, in answer to your previous post #650, it's not required to increase the version number when using an RGN file for initial flash [you can also use the SD card method, look at Post #636 for HWID 2268/V4.10].

The post you quoted was in answer to a user with a GPSMAP64s, a unit that can be flashed even initially by GCD:

Did you increase the version number for the patched firmware?
Looking to re-flash a new from box Drive Smart 60 w/ 2268 FW V4.10. The initial instructions do not mention this step. Is this a requirement to check the Adjust Firmware version and select 1?

Just to check, I am setting up a new etrex 30x for a friend.

    Model: eTrex 20x/30x | HWID: 2250 | SWVS: 106 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: ------ | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__106.gcd
    Model: eTrex 20x/30x | HWID: 2250 | SWVS: 200 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: ------ | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__200.gcd
    Model: eTrex 20x/30x | HWID: 2250 | SWVS: 210 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__210.gcd
    Model: eTrex 20x/30x | HWID: 2250 | SWVS: 230 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__230.gcd

His unit still has firmware 200, and my unlocked maps work on it no problem. If I update to latest 240, (the 230 says: MSV:Weak) does that mean I have to patch the firmware first?

    Try this:
    Spoiler:
    • Extract this file directly to a CLEAN microSD card and insert it into your device with it turned off: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    • Turn it on, connect it to a power source if the battery is low
    • 'Loader', then 'Software Loading' should appear on the screen, wait for it to finish and reboot, it might take a few minutes
    • If it successfully reboots, remove the card, and look in the root as there should be a new file named 'BUP_154.bin' which is your NV backup so keep it safe for the life of your device
    • Your device should now be successfully patched and accept unlocked maps.

Warning to others: This is for use by HWID 2268 devices Drive/DriveSmart/DriveTrack 60/70 devices ONLY. Do not use for any other devices. Do not modify it unless you know exactly what you're doing as use of an incompatible Ldr.bin can irretrievably BRICK your device.

Thank you Neil and Catymag. I have opted to try Neil's SD method first; even though I'm a DIY person. This is a little new to me so I want to be safe. Neil: I took a old micro-sd card and used CCleaner to wipe it clean. I unpacked your Zipped file onto the sd card and then removed the zip file. I restarted the unit and it says "Loader". I was feeling good until I had to plug the unit in after it hit about a half hour mark. I have yet to reach the "Loading Software" mark. How long should I expect to wait before re-trying? I'll give it a few attempts and then try flashing it on my own based on Catymags advice. I just don't want to be too impatient. When is a good time to say time to try again?

And yes, I removed the GCD file from .SYSTEM folder. All the advice is greatly appreciated!

Just so everyone knows, the answer to my question above is that it takes about 35 minutes to perform the SD update on the Drive Smart 60. Neil's files worked like a charm. I did have to go back and use the latest IMG unlocker, as at first it still told me the maps were locked. A quick drop of the files into the gimgunlock unlocker and all works fine.

Use the file with confidence, but only for Drivesmart with HWID: 2268 FW.

35 minutes is an extreme time, even taking into account that region 154 is first being backed up and that's a reasonably large region on many modern devices [the backup is done byte for byte, so the region's empty portion is copied as well]. I guess your 'old microSD card' is very slow. Good you didn't panic and turn the device off or pull the card as some ppl might be tempted to do in the circumstance. Using a power source when doing SD flash is a good policy too rather than start it on battery.

    Thanks for reporting back.

This new drive smart firmware 4.10 has been extended to support drivetrack 70 model, so I guess it will need more time loading, but I agree with Neil, it's possible your sd has some problems.
It would be interesting to know how much time the original firmware provided by Express needs to load.
