Getting a ready pack by Neil (thanks for finding the time in doing these packs) it doesn't mean you mustn't read OP and understand what you are doing.

Results can be ineffective and even really bad if these packs are shared elsewhere without due warnings and flashed from users who don't know what they are doing.

    Hello, I refer to #231 AMSD’s method.
Please tell me how to solve it. Thanks a lot.
(My garmin is Montana 680t. Before patched it, I have used Garmin Express to update to newest vision 2.50 )

    1.No any gupdate.gcd in device
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    2.Drag “_250.gcd” to produce “_250_patched.gcd”
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

3.copy “_250_patched.gcd” to folder “garmin”. Unplug from computer and reboot. But nothing happen.

Maybe it was not patched correctly for HWID 1947 or more likely i mixed up the original and patched BINs because 14.bin seems unchanged.

Double checked HWID 1758 folder which is definitely correct.

I've remade the 25x9 dual-HWID flash pack and replaced the 1fichier link in Post #597.

    @claude re
Because you didn't increase the version number the device may just ignore the GCD [even if you did actually rename '250_patched.gcd' correctly to 'gupdate.gcd'] because it's got the same version as what's already loaded [V2.50]. Increase it to at least V2.51 in your patched file named gupdate.gcd and then it will flash, so remake it with the patcher or increase the version in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Or you can convert your present patched GCD into an RGN file also with RGN_Tool and flash in preboot.

Finally I can use it. thanks a lot, Neil.

I updated "_.gcd" to V2.51 with RGN tool, and renamed it as "gupdate.gcd".It did work.
Next, I hope to find out how to install font to show local language.
But now I am very satisfied with it.
Thank you, every gps power member.

Hi I have a Montana 680t. I want to know that adding the patched .gcd file in the SD card in the following path "sd\garmin\", or must I add it to the internal storage of the unit.

Also just to confirm, I don't need to use the updater.exe method to load the .gcd file. Just plug in the unit to the PC in Mass storage mode and copy the file across, I ask my updater.exe shows an error that it can not find the .gcd file, although in the same directory on the pc, and I should use the command line to execute and load the update file to the unit.

    "sd\garmin\" it's ok.
You dont need Updater.exe to flash the patched firmware.
Read the post 603 please: answer to @claude re. Remove any old gupdate.gcd from your Montana before flashing.

It is a very interesting way to launch patcher from device drive...

Hi Catymag, thanks for that. I used the RGN tool to change the version to 251 as mentioned by claude re, and when switching on the unit, it said it was loading the new update file. So that has fixed that issue.

I think I am doing something fundamentally wrong with the maps. I have patched basecamp, patched mapinstall, and have installed from the original with use of jetmouse my set of maps on the basecamp. I am trying to use the patched Mapinstall to load maps from the original city navigator, but I still get "Can't Authenticate Maps" message from the unit.

I can use the maps I want with jetmouse on the basecamp though no issues, the maps are in unlocked status.

Just a simple misunderstanding by you of the terms used [you're by no means the first btw]. 'Unlocked' in BC means that the PC data can be used by BC, but when MapInstall is invoked to generate an image file on the device or media card it is still 'unauthenticated' because GMA is active. To make the image usable on the device it must be further 'unlocked' by [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] which will remove the GMA protection. Some info: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Hi Neil, thanks for that. Wow Garmin really are making life difficult. I have just upgraded from a GPS276c and mapsource. And things were a breeze with these 2 garmin products.

Although I am liking the Montana's touchscreen ability, and speed and detail of maps/birdseye images.
