You can flash it with an SD pack, this is all at your own risk of course. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] both before and after the flash. Check that there is no gupdate.gcd file in the device's .System folder, if present remove the GCD file before preceding. Ensure device is fully OFF, not just in standby. Extract the RAR file below directly to the root of a CLEAN microSD, insert card to device and power on [connect to a power source if battery isn't fully charged]. Wait for the flash to fully finish and the device to boot itself then remove the card.
    Spoiler:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

In the root of the card will be a new file 'BUP_154.bin' which is your 'nonvol' backup. Keep it somewhere safe for the life of your device.

Version 8.50 is very new having only been released several days ago. Please report back the results if you decide to use the flash pack.

WARNING TO OTHER USERS: This pack is for C4 version HWID 2077 of 24x7/8 and 25x7/8 devices ONLY [aka 2xx7, 2xx8]. Do not modify it for use in other devices unless you know exactly what you're doing as you can very easily HARD-BRICK your device using a wrong BIN or HWID.

I have created the .rgn file, named it 226701000360.rgn (2267 came from the xml file on the device). The device was set to mass storage, but uppon loading in the pre-boot mode updater.exe couldn't load the firmware (although it was detected for a short time). So I switched into mass storage autodetect and then update performed well. But now it loads and tells me 'system software missing'. I've messed with SW version during the creation an RGN file. Re-done it untouched SW version and flashed. Now works, maps are working. Thanks for this thread contributors!
The 'Increase firmware version' [SW version] function is only for meant for use with GUPDATE.GCD file flashing, see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. No need to advance the version number if the device's firmware has "GSV: Yes" which require initial RGN flash by Updater.exe in preboot.

This worked like a charm .
I extracted the file into a fresh SD card and inserted into the device , power on ... and the rest was all awesome .. It got flashed finally.

In the root of the card will be a new file 'BUP_154.bin' which is your 'nonvol' backup. Keep it somewhere safe for the life of your device.
    - When and what should i be doing with this file . Please let me know. I will have a note and save along with this file.

I know , it's too much of questions. But require your guidance in the next steps too.

    1) Should i keep all the files of "Extract_directly_to_clean_card" in the SD card ?
    2) What files should be kept / Removed ? .

As for now , I have completely removed the SD card used for flashing and using a new SD card with only one folder "Map/gmapprom.img" ,
    - Unfortunely My purchased 2015 Map is not showing on the device, but that's not a major issue when we have 2016.
    - But do you have any idea why does this 2015 MAP not show up ?

After patching , i just copied the "gmapprom.img" into another new SD card and now i am able to see CN NT INDIA 2016.20 Here ALL maps.
Can you help me what are the other files should i copy from the folder below to my SD card.

I borrowed a TOMTOM this morning from my friend , as i was literally struggling on routes. It had all the toll information, lanes and more junction view on it.
Is this something missing in GARMIN India maps ?

Thanks a Ton for your inputs and help Neil :-)

The only file you really need to keep from the SD card is the nonvol [NV] backup BUP_154.bin. It's unlikely you'll ever need it, but in the case of a catastrophic bricking it might be your only way of restoring the device to full working order. Just keep the file safe and in the unlikely event that it's ever needed post for help or restore with 'xrgn' command, more here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Don't use it without a good reason except as a last resort and don't lose it.

To do future firmware updates you can use a patched GUPDATE.GCD file, but if you update it with an original [unpatched] GCD you'll need to use either the RGN or SD bin files method again [that's because if again loaded with original firmware the unit will thereafter require a signed GCD file again so won't accept the patched version of the file].

If you have two maps of different versions covering the same area the device will often ignore the earlier but in many cases it can cause serious conflicts so backup and remove the 2015 *.img file and importantly also backup and remove any files *.gma and *.unl present in .System folder and also same for any other 'map specific' files for the 2015 map such as the JCV file. To know which files you need read this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] More here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Any problems ongoing will be about the India map and its ancillary files so if you need more help post back in the map thread again: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

In case of future updates, i just have to copy the newer version *.img file right ? or is there anything else required .
Will a firmware update be required again for the newer maps ?

Should i put back the GUPDATE.GCD back in the .sytem folder ?

I have *.gma and *.unl which got downloaded with purchased INDIA NT 2015 in the SD card . I have removed all these .
I also have *.gma and *.unl which came pre-loaded with US Maps of the device at .system folder. Should i remove that too .

Yes, if you only want the map just the unlocked IMG. If you want extras like Junction Views then you must also copy the JCV file etc.

No. You only need to worry about future FIRMWARE upgrades being PATCHED. The unlocked map, any version, will work provided the firmware is patched, any version.

No, at least not if you mean the file you removed before the flash. In future you can simply patch any later version of firmware and use the patched GUPDATE.GCD to update. If however you accidentally update with an original GCD via GarminExpress or WebUpdater you'll need to patch again using either the RGN or SD Bin files method.

Correct. I assume you must be now using that same card for the 2016.20 map.

    No.

The messages from FW patcher are OK. GPSMap64 has no GVS.

    EDIT:
Oregon 7 series working well too with unicode maps.
How did you get Oregon 7x0 pre-boot mode? I can not. Holding power button, appears briefly in updater window then finsishes booting. Or did you just do patched GCD for first time?
