I removed the suggested files but the error message continues "maps were not unlocked".
With this error message the map does not appear to be select for use.

Are there any other (locked) maps on the device that may cause the "Maps were not unlocked" message?
Does the name of the new map show up in the Map Info menu of the device?

Just for my understanding: if you have a nüvi 2598LMT with a Lifetime Map update subscription associated with it, why would you want to patch the firmware? Unless you want to use maps covering an area not included in the Lifetime Map update subscription? Please clarify which map is offered under your Lifetime Map update subscription and what new map you're trying to get working.

Also, if you received that message in isolation and did not get additionally 'maps are corrupt and cannot be used' or similar then the problem is solely with the map img file, verified by the fact you've said it doesn't even show up to be selected. Check in GMapTool's Info or Details tab that it's unlocked or just run gimgunlock+mapsigpatch on the file.

Perhaps in any case the gma/unl files were for your LM map being as they were named 'gmapprom'. If so and your gmapprom.img is still on the device it will now also throw up a 'cannot unlock maps' message.

Tell us exactly what maps you have, either OEM LM or unlocked/unofficial, what they are named and where they are placed.

The map that is associated with lifetime map is of no interest to me at this time but I would like it to be working.

All the other maps I am using are working just fine. Only the official map is indicating that "could not be unlocked".

If I replace the official uptodated map with the older version of the official map then the error does not show up and the older version map appears listed for selection.

The questions that you, Neil and Smokefree posted made me think if I had done something wrong.
I went back to the .System folder and verified that both files gmapprom.gma and gmapprom.unl that I was using were related to the older version. So replaced the older gmpprom.gma and gmaprom.unl for the new version and all difficulties were gone. No more "maps were not unlocked" message and the new map appears listed for selection as expected.

Thanks for the three of you that took your time to help me. I hope you don't get upset with me.

    God bless you all.

You would simply loose the patch.
So patch the new firmware again and update/flash it by sd. Instructions in OP

I am trying to get it patched for almost 6 hrs now .. Unsuccessfully...
I am not sure where am i going wrong. But after several tries.
Luckily... I have reset the device to factory setting and the pre-loaded maps are working as usual .

But, i need this INDIA maps to be loaded and pushing hard .. but doing the patch is where am i stuck .
I could see on Basecamp the MAP is "Not lockable" .. assuming it's unlocked as i see the same for the US maps.

But when i do the steps for patch .. and restart the device.. nothing comes up.
Is there a possibility we can have a teamviewer share and check this please..

Tell us HOW you've done the patched firmware loading please [RGN, CGD or SD bin files loading method?]

BaseCamp can see any Locked as well as Unlocked images anyway. Forget about the US map, it's LM so not a problem for your device anyway.

We don't offer such personalised service and it won't help others now or even you in the future if we do it for you privately. So, what steps did you do? Post screens if necessary. What is its HWID, 1582 or 2077? Are you using the NT or NTU [unicode] India map?

NOTE: This post and the one above moved from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] thread because your problem is not with the India map itself, it's seemingly because the device isn't using properly patched firmware so please only reply in the this thread from now.
