    A remark:
the reason why I suggest to put the patched .gcd in sd/Garmin is if something goes wrong in patching or in loading the .gcd to Nuvi, you can remove the sd and nothing bad will happen.
If a corrupt .gcd is loaded in .System, Nuvi goes bricked.
IMHO this is valid for any .gcd to flash in nuvi, non patched or even more in case of a patched .gcd.

That's a very, very good point. As dragging the GCD onto WebUpdater is the same as placing it manually in .System, we probably should have amended this earlier in big-bang's post:

I've now changed that to read:
NOTE: To flash a firmware update in the future, just patch the new gupdate.gcd, remember to remove any previous gupdate.gcd in your device, then flash new fw safely and easily only by placing the patched gupdate.gcd in microSD [sd:\Garmin\gupdate.gcd] not in Device's .System folder. The reason being that if the GCD file is faulty it could brick the device in .System ['brick' as in prevent it from booting]. If it causes a problem stuck on 'loader' when on a card, removing the card removes the problem and the device will work normally.

I'm pretty sure big-bang won't mind such constructive amendments of his excellent contribution to this forum and also guess he would agree. I know he still looks in from time to time so i guess he'd comment further if he felt it was needed.

Are these the steps you did?:
    • Removed any gupdate.gcd from .System folder of device
    • Used the V8.30 SD pack in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to patch the device's firmware as per the instructions in that post
    • Patched V8.40 GUPDATE.GCD and placed it in a root folder named Garmin in clean microSD
    • Inserted the microSD into the device with it fully OFF [not in standby]
    • Switched on the device and waited for it to update and fully boot
    • Ensured the detail map you're using is properly unlocked with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    Hello Guys,

i found your forum after searching the internet for a whole day now, because I encounter problems copying some maps onto my Garmin nüvi 2599LMT.
So i hope you can answer me a few qestions before I will brick it to a paperweight. At the moment it is still operating normal, but not acceppting my map.

I think i read all instructions carefully an try to give you an overview what happened so far:
    - Downloaded Firmware "nuvi25x9_780.gcd" (got the 780 from the XML on the device)
    - Downloaded IMGPatcher_v23-5-2016.rar
    - Downloaded RGN_Tool.rar (0.8.0.7 from file properties)
    - Downloaded Updater (2.8.0.0 from file properties)
    - Patched gcd-File with IMGPatcher -> "nuvi25x9_780_Patched.gcd"
    - Converted gcd-File with RGN_Tool and renamed File to 194701000780.rgn
    - Dropped rgn-File onto Updater, preselected "USB-Device" an positioned the Mouse Pointer onto the OK Button
    - Connected nüvi to Laptop and pressed middle of the screen when Garmin Logo appeared, right then "SYSTEM" appeared above the Logo
    - Immediately pressed OK with the other hand. Then "LOADER LOADING..." appeared on the screen.
    - The Updater showed 100% just from the beginning, stayed there and presented an error message after some Time:
    App: Updater
    At: 6/28/2016 3:01:57 PM (UTC)
OS: WIN32 Windows Platform, Major Version: 6, Minor Version: 1 Service Pack 1
Processor: Pentium Pro or Pentium II, RAM: 4105776 KB
    IOU_USBLINK.CPP-710-2.8

So what do I need or do to use NTU Maps on my device?
One problem was, that I couldn't find my device onto the list, so i don't know what kind of protection it has.
But there is a protection, because after installing a map onto the nüvi with MapInstall the device told me that they are not unlocked.
I did not see any GCD-Files inside .system folder or Garmin folder.

Thank you for your help and best regards...
BrickMyNuvi(the name hopefully don't says it all)

    Read post n.2
    What is your device HWID?
Look for it in list and be sure you flash the right fw.
Patched fw must be in the same directory of Updater when you drag it in Updater.exe.
If it fails again try another cable.
Keep on pressing and holding on the screen untill you won't get success message.
