    I buyed a Drivesmart 50. It came with a sofware version 350. I made the whole procedure. When I run the installer putting the Garmin in preboot and it is recognized by the installer I make click but a error message windows appears stating the Garmin device is nor responding.
    I tried several times with two different cables, with always the same result.
    Maybe there is some form of software protection (a read only flag) that prevent from writing the garmin's memory, like in the smartphones, where you must root the phone in order to make changes?
    A little help please

    @ribmarco
    Welcome to GPS Power. See [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] by Philipych. Use his sd pack and it'll patch your Drivesmart 50 without preboot.

    EDIT: Oops! In the immortal words of Maxwell Smart 'Missed it by that much'. Pleased you're sorted mate.

    Yes.
    Read carefully post #1.
    You need to achieve the whole procedure because your device is fully protected.

    Or even easier, because you are lucky, you can use Neil's SD pack in post #469.

    Yes you can if your nuvi has HWID 2077 , then patch 8.40 firmware and load it dragging the patched .gcd in Webupdater icon in desktop after plugging your nuvi to pc or put directly in sd in a Garmin folder.
    Dont forget to remove any old .gcd from nuvi first.

    Please carefully read catymag's post. The reason to use the SD method for initial patching on your device is because of the difficuly of getting it into preboot and you MUST have preboot mode for Updater.exe to see it. So use the SD pack for V8.30, THEN patch the V8.40 GUPDATE.GCD file and place that file in your .System folder. Read the first post for subsequent use of patched GCD file in units where the initial patching has been done with RGN file/Updater.exe because the SD method replaces and replicates exactly that RGN/Updater method.
