GUPDATE.GCD can be flashed in a few ways but not as you're mused above. That in fact is the path used in a media card for running text commands from Update.txt initiated by Ldr.bin [boot.bin], but that path cannot be used either on the device or a card to flash the GCD file. In older devices gupdate.cgd will flash from a Garmin folder in both SD and unit, in modern devices from Garmin folder on SD or .System folder on unit. It can be placed manually into the unit's Garmin or .System folder [as applicable] or via WebUpdater [either as download from server, or by dragging the gcd file onto WU icon or it's exe], or via GarminExpress as download only. They are the only ways i know where a firmware GCD file may be directly used to flash the unit and all eventually rely on the GCD flashing being self-initiated by the device itself on boot and not from any external command.

That principle the whole script (of course if I have understood correctly when you are asked for a more detailed description)
I understand the principle very well of HOW such a script would work, i just can't write it. So, I wasn't asking you for an explanation/description of how it works in P#454 & 457, i suggested that you can write it and post [if you like]. Clearly commands invoking 'FirmwarePatcher.exe' to start and patch the firmware needs be part of the process. To invoke it is easy but i wouldn't know how to make it do the rest .....

    PS
I do not know much English so I did not understand your last question = (
My last question where i asked for clarification about region 14? If i understand correctly the purpose of your 'sample firmware request', it would load from the Garmin server to a USB connected device's region 14 which is where the main system software is stored [aka 'fw_all.bin']. I cannot see how that, as such, could assist with patching of firmware seeing it's loading directly.

I would like to use my eTrex Touch 35 with City Navigator NTU 2017.1, Topo Germany V7 Pro and Topo Austria V4 Pro.
These maps are unlocked, checked with PGFT 2.2.5.4 x64, and they do work onto Oregon 650, Oregon 550 and Dakota 20 and did also work onto this eTrex Touch 35 device with a patched firmware version 3.00. At the the original eTrexTouch25_35_Webupdater__320.gcd I applied the procedure as described into this thread (tried it two times).
But the maps are still not shown into the map choice menu onto the device. Also the warning "Cannot authenticate maps...." comes up at Power up.

I would like to read any helpfully message, Thanks.
    Hello catymag,

Thanks for your reply and answer.
I still did the same procedure at a earlier Firmware version and that did work. Do not know why not now! Still will try it again.

    Thanks.

    Hello
First of all thank you to Neil for creating the pack that can be used for Nuvi 2597LM. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I followed instructions. When the unit started with the pack on SD card, loader came up but then, I received a message that the unit software is newer than the software being installed, I have selected to proceed with the install. It booted normally but it still tells me - cannot unlock maps (using unlocked .img City Navigator Europe 2017.10). Did I do something wrong, or there are more steps besides just simply running the pack from the SD card?
Please help... And thank you guys again, you are great.

G'day Goga, welcome to GPS Power. 'Cannot unlock maps' message indicates a detail map on the unit or an inserted SD is still locked. Check with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or just run [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on the EU 2017.10.

    Hello Neil
The map I use was already unlocked with the tools you have mentioned. After using your pack from SD card it still tells me cannot unlock maps, map is corrupted please use GarminExpress to update maps....
    Any suggestions?
Thank you! I really appreciate your reply

Ok, a message additionally saying 'Maps are corrupt' is an indication that the firmware indeed has not been properly patched. Here's an SD pack for both 25x7 HWIDs [C4 2077 and 1582]. It will only flash the files for your unit's HWID.
    Spoiler:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

When it's done you'll have a file in the root of the card named "BUK_154.bin". That's your unit's NV backup so keep it somewhere safe for the life of the device.

EDIT: Be sure to remove any existing GUPDATE.GCD file from the device's .System folder. It's a hidden folder, if you can't see it in Mass Storage Mode then in Windows open Folder Options in Control Panel > View and select radio button for 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' also uncheck 'Hide protected operating system system files [recommended]. Read fully here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Warning for other users: The above pack is for patching 25x7 ONLY. Do not modify it for another device unless you are sure exactly what you are doing. Flashing an incorrect Ldr.bin [boot.bin] can hard-brick your device, perhaps permanently!
