    @Catymag

    Thank you, it works I can place any map now on the nuvi2548.
    I have used the GUPDATE.GCD who was already in my system folder to make an rgn file. So I was sure it was the good firm.
    Then I have renamed the rgn file to 207701000830.rgn and flashed with the updater in the nuvi.

    I have a question. If I can for new receivers (eg. 2597) use the free maps (without unlocking), why someone cant be done to unlock the garmins maps - permanently (without change firmware)? Its just a question.

    G'day gruhagruha, welcome to GPS Power.

    Shortest possible answer: It's easier to patch the firmware.

    Hello all. I understand. But now, there is a risk of blockage of the receiver. It was easier and safer for users. If there is no other way, then I have to do it Thank you for your reply and for the tutorial.

    If you follow with care instructions and you know what are you doing is not dangerous at all, good practice is to make NV backup as written in starting post, it will save your device in case of wrong flashing.
    This thread has been read by 3793 users and the new file uploaded on 23-5-16 already downloaded 89 times and till now,as I know, nobody bricked his device.

    Another way to download firmware (because I had a problem with it):

    1. plug the flash drive into the computer.
    2. create it in the root folder - Garmin.
    3. to this folder copy the file GarminDevice.xml of your device (in my Nuvi 2597).
    4. run WebUpdater, which detects the flash drive as Garmin, make an update, it saves the file on the USB drive with firmware (usually a GUPDATE.GCD)

    Im sorry if it was already.
