No, don't flash an RGN made with RGN_Tool with HWID written as 0 [zero]. kunix theorizes that the HWID is initialized to the right value by the bootloader flashing normally with a GCD because Drive and DriveSmart firmwares don't have the HWID written in the firmware. So even gfw.exe will write '0' to the bin files. See here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Page 2].

Of course you already know that Drive/DriveSmart have "MSV: Yes | GVS: Yes" so cannot be flashed initially by a patched GCD, so i would write the correct HWID manually and save the RGN only as 226801000310.rgn to flash. I don't have a suitable device to experiment with, therefore cannot take any responsibility so the risk will be entirely yours if you follow this suggestion.

Ok, here are some information to help other upgrading their locked GPS.

Everything in the first post is written for user how like to upgrade the GPS with the same firmware as they already has.
But wait, what if there is a new firmware for your GPS, do you then need to follow the steps in post #1. No.

Here is what I did on my Nuvi 2699 to upgrade it for second time with a patched firmware.
Wait until Garmin releases a new firmware for your GPS.
Take care if you upgrade your map and there is a new firmware, it will upgrade the firmware at the same time without asking.
But you can use the same steps if you upgrade the maps as well.

    1. Make sure there is a new firmware for your GPS.
    2. Connect it to your PC and start Garmin Express.
    3. Update your GPS, but do NOT remove it from your PC or reboot it.
    4. Copy the gupdate.gcd from the .system folder to your PC.
    5. Follow steps 1-5 in first post.
    6. Rename gupdate_patched.gcd to gupdate.gcd
    7. Copy gupdate.gcd to .system on your GPS
    8. Reboot, and GPS will upgrade.
    9. Done

PS step 5 in post #1 is missing an important step.
It is not clear what Window it referering too.
    It should be written:

    5) Start patcher, drop the gupdate.gcd in its window. The patcher will provide the patched gcd file as 'gupdate_patched.gcd' in your chosen directory.

Does somebody knows sea model Garmin GPSMAP 5008 ?
Is it necessary to apply Universal Firmware Patcher for using Bluechart maps ?
Or it is GPSMAP Series with SDCard and HWID=1318 ?

    @victor777

This Patcher is not suitable for marine devices.
Moreover, their firmwares do not contain MSV, because BlueChart maps have not yet signed.

I don't know if this has changed or not. The newest Bluechart "Vision" "HD" charts seem to have TWO img files. I don't know what function each file has, but I think one of the files may have something to do with the improved auto-guidance.

Someone reported that they have tried to unlock the new "HD" vision card files using gimgunlock but got the message that the Marine unit said "Cannot Unlock Maps".

Has anyone here tried to unlock the new vision "HD" charts using gimgunlock ?

Maybe the two separate files need to be merged somehow ?

Up until now all the g2 Vision charts have been able to be unlocked using gimgunlock. I don't know for sure what may have changed, or is a slightly different procedure is needed.

In recent plotters with the latest firmware Bluecharts HD vers.17.50 cannot be unlocked with gimgunlock.
Second .img is 1 foot HD contour map. See [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Hi CatyMag.

When did someone discover that Marine plotter can't use charts unlocked with gimgunlock with latest software?

This is terrible news. I have a 8212. Is it possible to use the firmware patcher for my 8212 to allow unlocking of new HD charts ?

The software version I have on my 8212 is 7.30. Which version do I need to try to revert to in order to be able to use unlocked maps ?

    Any other solutions ?

    Regards.

We got info from users after a couple of new Bluecharts 17.50 had been shared.
    There are few info yet.
What we really know for sure new firmware devices cannot use OSEAM and custom charts.
    No solutions till now, sorry.
