The fact that it goes to the calibration screen means that it had in fact reached preboot. If a flash is not started within a certain time the device will then move on from preboot to the calibration screen and that time may be mere seconds or up to a minute depending on the device series. 2xx7/8/9 are particularly difficult so before even attempting to reach preboot, you MUST open Updater.exe and have it ready with the RGN file loaded to it first, also enable the radio button to the left of 'USB Device' on updater's GUI and watch the window to the right of 'USB Device' with your mouse cursor positioned ready over 'OK'. Read the notice in red behind the spoiler at the top of the first post [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and follow that. When the device details appear in the window immediately click 'OK' on the GUI or just hit the Enter key on your PC keyboard. You must keep holding the device screen until at least 'Loader' / 'Software Loading' appears on it, or just hold until the flash finishes.

There is another way to flash using SD commands to write individual bin files to specific regions if all else fails, but it needs some preparation so it's better if you can flash with Updater.exe and the rgn file.

    1. Turn off the navigator.
    2. Run Garmin Updater by *.rgn and put point on 'USB Device:' ( see picture on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ).
    3. Click and hold the upper left corner of the screen and connect nuvi with PC.
    4. After 2-4 seconds when the PC recognizes the device ( you will hear a specific sound in the bar ' USB Device:' will appear the information ) you have to quickly click 'OK'.
    5. After the appearance on the nuvi screen 'Loading .....' you can remove your finger from the upper left corner of the screen.
If during flashing the device will disconnect from the PC repeat the procedure again but only in step 5 do not remove your finger from the upper left corner of the screen till the flashing end.
I recommend using the USB socket on the PC motherboard and without the extension cable.

Thanks for the quick response guys, but the problem is that although the PC recognizes the device, it however does not show the details in the USB Device area. The Unit shows system, loading, a sound is made by the PC (indicating the device is recognized) but the device details just don't show on the updater interface.

This is the latest I got, it's not showing the details of the actual device but 25x9!

OK, it's too hard for you in preboot. Tell me the HWID of your 2597: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. [NOTE: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]]. Then i'll make an sd card kit for you to flash it.

Extract the RAR file to a clean card, ensure your device is fully OFF before inserting the card then turn it on and wait until it boots itself. 'Loader' should show on the screen when the flash starts. If the battery is low, connect it to a power source which will power it on.
    Spoiler:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

When it boots, remove the card and check it on your PC. There should be a new file in Garmin/Updater/2077 named update.log and it should read 'success' after every command. Also in the root of the card should be an additional BIN file BUK_154.bin. This is a backup of your device's nonvol. Keep a copy indefinitely as it could restore your unit in case of a catastrophic bricking later.

EDIT: Before doing this flash remove any existing GUPDATE.GCD from the device's .System folder.

EDIT 2: See [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] where there's an updated SD flash pack for HWID 2077 using V8.40 patched firmware.

Alright Neil, will do just that. Thanks.

Well, well, well,...what more can I say? The Geniuses in the house have done it again!!! It's just like you said, Neil. Everything exactly! Just to let you know that I'm not at all surprised that it worked though (I know you guys know exactly what you are doing), just impressed and exited. May the Good Lord continue to bless and assist you the way you guys have been and are still assisting others. Thank You, brother. Gratitude.

Just wanted to verify that this works on a Nuvi 2597LMT (North American version) Firmware version 8.30. HWID: 2077

This is basically nuvi 2xx7 and 2xx8 C4 software version 8.30

Huge thanks to OP big-bang for making this all possible.
