    Two questions:

    1. Is this procedure required for Garmin Montana 680t? (I do not see it listed in FW lists)

    2. How does one use this firmware patcher AND the JNX Firmware patcher to allow use of BirdsEye maps?

    Thank You!

Are you sure? Most Garmin devices simply rewrite the GarminDevice.xml on re-boot so any 'edits' are lost.

    Yes it is interesting.

If you didn't hard-reset it after the last upgrade do it now then check if your problems with V3.10 still exist.

Not sure how to do a hard reset to a watch. It doesn't have a reset button or similar...
(Anyway this problem is only with ver. 3.10).

I did a hard reset with ver. 3.10, but unfortunately it didn't work....

Anyway this watch is amazing, you can have the whole earth in your hand with OSM and still have space for your local topo. A must have device for a globetrotter.

    Yes, it is required.

I jumped the gun, applied patch to my Montana 680t, and while the map authentication warning has been removed, the Map application no longer opens, and the unit locks up every time it is selected.

I have tried re-loading original firmware, but problem persists.

What does the patcher do to the unit that a fresh unedited firmware installation can not resolve?

I have 8 separate map.img files and still working fine since 3.10 update, not aware of any other issues.
The error "Map database full" doesn't sound like a .img file issue, maybe try some smaller map.img's with less mapping segments. All devices have max segment limits and even though Epix is quite high at up to 4,000 it could be possible you have hit it.

Garmin also mention that "Connect IQ apps may fill internal memory before file limittions are met" so something else you could check.

The patcher disables the map signature verification (MSV) only in the firmware of your Montana 680t.

Hard reset it if you didn't do so after loading the original firmware. The load the patched fw again and again reset it. The problem you're having is unlikely to do with the patcher, as Cnfhbr points out it's only disabled the MSV check in the Montana's firmware anyway.
