    Hi

    I have Montana 680t, firmware 2.10
The software is locked and not accept unlocked maps.

I tried to patch the firmware as explained in post#1, from step 1 to step 5, then did the following:

1- put the .gcd file corresponding to patched firmware into Montana Garmin folder.
2- disconnect properly Montana from PC.
3- Reboot Montana and patched firmware will be installed.
4- Then do a master reset ("clear non vol") :

After that, I tried to use an unlocked map and it is work very very will.

I have used the unlocked map to navigate in my city without any problem.

Then, I patched firmware 2.30 and did the same previews steps to update the software, and it is working very will.

    Thank you big-bang
    Thank you sergio2

I am wondering, my father has Montana 650 updated to 6.80.
When I use Garmin Express to update my Montana 680t, it shows that the last available update for my device is 2.30

Is it OK? or there is some thing wrong?

That's because they use different firmware. M680 latest is V2.30 and M650 is V6.80 as you've noted:

Ok Firstly, Many thanks for the work gone into solving this.

I was a little shocked when I installed the 1:25 OS maps that have just appeared to find they wouldn't work! I have been using the 1:50 for some time and hadn't updated the firmware so I wasn't expecting any issues. I guess they implemented some new security in the maps that was linked to the firmware that wasn't previously being used.

Anyway, if it's any use to anybody this is how I did it with a GPSMAP 64s

I Followed the instructions to check the HWID, it confused me to start with as it doesn't list the 64s but I eventually found out that they are the same. Also in a txt file on the unit when plugged it it shows the HWID so I was happy.

The next confusion was downloading the firmware after some plying I figured out that if I click (Develop>Show web inspector on safari mac) it shows me the download link.

Then I simply ran it through the IMGPatcher in VMWear and Renamed the output patched file as gupdate.gcd

I transferred it to the SD card in to the SD>Garmin folder (I had checked there where no previous one present)

Then put the sd card back and booted the GPSMAP 64s

It showed updating, then started and hey presto the 1:25 OS unlocked now work.

It was actually quite easy but needs a lot of reading and checking to ensure you have it right.

    Thanks again

    No different procedure:

    1. Turn off the navigator.

    2. Press the upper left corner of the screen.

    3. Turn on the navigator still holding the upper left corner of the screen

Read carefully instructions in starting post and in this thread:

You have to navigate to get to the good.

I tried several hours holding the upper left corner and then power on the device, but it simply restarts my navigator rather going onto the pre-boot mode,

Hard reset it or clear nonvol then try again.

    Where there is HWID?

    Does it require patched firmware?

    thanks

No it doesn't, see my previous post n 228. You need gimgunlock + MapSigPatch only.
You could save time reading carefully starting post
