Thanks again Neil. I have sw8.2 on my device and the rgn is 194801000821.rgn. Will my 2689 recognize part of a map? Do I have to rename the map img from CNEUNTU2o1630-IMG-UL to gmapsupp.img? Maybe that's why it's not being recognised.
Anyway, at one stage I had to wait for something to load to my device, it said 100% done, but no 'success' message.
    Cheers,
    GeoffRBG

One more thing - I downloaded CNEUNTU2o163o-IMG-UL from Navigator's post#5 in the 2016-30 Europe thread - the zippy downloads.

Ok, you've updated to 8.20 normally recently i guess. In the other thread you said you had 7.80 on board, but no matter. If it's still showing "SW Version: 8.20" in Device>About page then it hasn't updated with 194801000821.rgn for sure [that's assuming you also did the SW Version override in RGN_Tool as i told you to do, not just changed the RGN file's name].

Your unit can see 'anyname' .img files in Garmin folder same as in Map folder i'm quite sure. Certainly gmapsupp.img is valid in Garmin, Caty has one of these series she can confirm for anyname. In the meantime, change the name to gmapsupp.img and leave it in Garmin folder, or create a root folder named Map in the card and move CNEUNTU2o1630-IMG-UL.img to it. Be sure the extension .img is present and be sure that you don't have it duplicated ['gmapsupp.img.img']. See that you have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked in Windows [Control Panel>Folder Options>View].

I should write a book - oh wait - I almost am. Okay, I created a Garmin file on my sd and put in that the CNEUNTU2o163o-IMG-UL opened the included file and copied it to my desktop. Then I deleted the CNEUNTU2 folder and copied the desktop fileto my Garmin folder. Then I changed the name to mapsupp.img (it was about 4Gb).
When I started my 2689, the message "can't unlock maps" appeared. So I guess I haven't installed updater after all. Oh well, back to the brawing doard.

See if you make the next edition NON-FICTION. Back to the other thread with you, you're just stinking this one up. And stop with the lame spoonerisms, mine are much better you billy sugger!

At least you've now got the naming right and the map is being checked on boot up, but are you sure that map is really unlocked despite it's name? Run [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] on it just in case, or at least check it in 'Info' tab of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. It shouldn't have any 'L' after '30' under the 'prio' heading, if it shows for any entry like that then it's still locked, e.g.:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
If the L doesn't appear at all for all entries under 'prio', it's unlocked.

I don't have a protected fw device, but i'd have thought the message would be additionaly 'Maps are corrupt and can't be used' or similar, rather than solely 'Can't unlock maps' which is by itself actually a standard message when you place locked maps on an unprotected device they aren't authorised for via GMA and UNL codes.

So last gasp in this thread mate, you can reply to that here if you want but then it's back to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to get you sorted, we're a bit OT here now. And call your Mum dammit! Don't make me come down there!! ...... I need to have a Bex and a lie down now, you've given me a headache ......

No need to patch HWID1273 nuvi 2460 firmware. I've checked FW_list.txt and strangely it's absent, but it will show "MSV: ---" and "GSV: Yes". As it doesn't have an MSV check it can continue to simply use gimgunlock+MapSigPatch to unlock maps, unless of course protection is introduced in later firmware versions.
