I have renamed rgn file to:198401000780.rgn (my hwid is 1948)
    Not sure if its correct.

Anyone got it to work with firmware 8.20 (latest)

    Then error

Edit: A factory reset (delete all user data) from speedometer diag, did not help.

Edit2: Fond an old portable. Installed Windows XP 32 bit. Added USB drivers from here:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Updater finds unit, but same as before. Error IOU_UTILITIES.CPP-203-2.8

    What to do???

Has anyone with firmware 8.2 been able to get this to work???

    @Jotne
You have 2699 C4 and HWID is 1948, not 1984. Name of RGN should be 194801000781.rgn not 198401000781.rgn.

I guess that's a typo in here and you have the correct file naming or Updater.exe should say 'No updates available ....' message and not even start the flash.

This was just a typo her in the forum. I use correct name, 194801000781.rgn. Also tried 194801000780.rgn
If I do use any name, without number, updater accept the file and show correct version hwid 1948 and 8.20 in the updater program.
If I use a wrong number, everything stops and tell this is not correct verion.

Tried bot 7.8 and 8.2 version. Created various rgn files, but all stopes with the same error.

I was so stupid and updated the gps from 7.8 to 8.2 earlier to day, before I did see this thread.

Success! With help from Catymag, Neil and big-bang, I was able to get my 2597LMT (with SWV 8.20) firmware patched!

In case anybody is running into similar problems - those ending with IOU_UTILITIES or IOU_USBLINK or 100% complete, 0:00 remaining (and then stuck), this is what I have done differently this time ...

    (1) I re-did all the steps from scratch ... although I didn't think I messed up the first time
    (2) I followed the naming convention for RGN file - as noted in post #5 - <hwid_4numerals>01000<swversion_3numerals> and bumped up the swversion # by 1, as in 207701000821.rgn
    (3) I followed the 'timing' suggestion for getting into pre-boot mode in post #26
    (4) I also took my finger off the power switch after plugging in the USB cable to the GPS and after hitting OK in Updater, but I continued pressing the top left corner on the screen until the update is complete
    (5) it really helped to have a second pair of hands to plug in the cable and hit OK (while you press the power button and screen)

Good luck ... it really works!!!

Neil, re your comment re the nuvi 25x9 Software Version 8.2 that I got for my nuvi 2597, the same message appeared in the update.log when I did a backup of the nuvi NV.

Be VERY cautious using any naming other than <hwid>01000<swv>. If you remove one of the digits from '01000' or use <anyname>.rgn [e.g. out.rgn] the flash will be forced regardless of the hwid of the unit. That's of no consequence if you're using the correct firmware but it can brick a unit if it's the wrong firmware. It can be used advantageously of course if you are wanting to change the unit's HWID to do a complete flash but you need to know what you're doing. In this case, we need to avoid changing the HWID at all costs so everybody doing this, please be sure to use the correct source firmware for your unit by [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and use appropriate naming of the RGN file, i.e. <hwid>01000<swv>.rgn only. It's '01000' that tells Updater.exe to check the HWIDs match in the RGN file name and the unit itself.

Proof that perseverance pays off, well done mate.

I guess that a coder at Garmin has stuffed up and '25x9' is written somewhere in the boot software instead of '25x7-2xx8'. No consequence in any case.

Have you removed any previous gupdate.gcd in nuvi?
Try another USB cable, when you click ok in Updater keep pressing nuvi left upper corner.
When Updater finishes , unplug nuvi, restart it and let nuvi load the new firmware, don't touch it until you'll see it starting normally.

I only just noticed this in your earlier post. So now my understanding is that you may have Version 8.20 on your unit, not V7.80 as we thought.

If that's so and if you've followed the above advice from Caty and it still hasn't worked for you, use the 8.20 firmware to make the patched RGN, name it 194801000820.rgn or if that doesn't work then re-do it but override the SW Version on the patched GCD file to '821' then make the RGN naming the file 194801000821.rgn.
