Let's imagine I buy a Nüvi 68 with City Navigator Europe preloaded in internal memory with free lifetime map updates.
Then, I want to install other maps like for example City Navigator USA on a microSD : device is fully protected (MSV, GSV) so that I have to run the full patching process from post #1.
So here is my question, may be a stupid one : after device is patched, will I be able to use Garmin Express to update free Europe preloaded map or will it be better to use new map versions uploaded on GPSPower ?
You have to navigate to get to the good.

The "Universal Firmware Patcher" in posting #1 works well for GPSMAP 64 firmware version 4.00.
But for the new firmware 4.20 as of December 18, 2015 it does not work. FirmwarePatcher shows the messages:
Firmware version as specified in GCD file: 4.20 for GPSMAP 64.
Firmware name: Software Version 4.20 for GPSMAP 64.
Applying rule set MSV... No matches.
Applying rule set GVS... No matches.
I am sorry, but I cannot do this test because I don't have the TOPO Germany v7 PRO. I use the GPSMPAP 64 for geocaching, and as I know from my friends in my region the OSM-maps mostly show much more details than the Garmin-Topo v7 Pro. So I use OSM, but for some of those maps I got an authentification-error. Therefore I am interested in the firmware-patch. At the moment I am quite content with firmware version 4.0 because it works fine, and my above posting should only be an information for the author of this nice tool.
I'd like to try on my 64s (patched firmware 4.0 with working City Navigator Europe NTU).
But where did you get the 4.2 .gcd file from ?
