I have read that before but have not 'noticed' this phenomenon. The problem that I have with MI is that once you build the mapset, you have no information as to what map segments are included, and selecting the segments is awkward, to put it nicely.

Would you play also Russian Roulette? Ok, the possible consequences are not so devastating but you surely don't want your Garmin to have a hissy fit when you least expect it [it will eventually].

I agree, it's clunky. Not to mention the stupid auto naming. Swings and roundabouts. Garmin giveth and Garmin taketh away .......

Hi I have a nuvi 1300 MTK (HW 1104). It seems from what I read in post #22 that simply copying the proper patched .gcd file to /Garmin/gupdate.gcd on an empty SD card in the nuvi and restarting will flash the firmware to a version with "routes" enabled. I understand that this is more risky that using the updater.exe application and the .rgn file found in post #1 and #29. However, I'm a Linux user and of course I can't natively run any of the utilities you folks have developed for updating and modifying Garmin firmware. So, could someone please run the 110401000630.rgn file through the RGN tool and post the equivalent .gcd file so I can download it? I'd really appreciate it. I know I could use Wine, or Crossover, or maybe even mono, or I could load Win7 into a virtualbox machine, or I could even start from scratch and load windows in its own partition followed by loading linux to its own partition and using the combination of the windows bootloader and grub to control startup, but the thought of the trouble I'd have to go through using any of these methods to accomplish the simple conversion of one file makes these solutions pretty unappealing. Thanks again.

Thanks for the file catymag. However, color me confused. I loaded the patched .gcd you supplied to the /Garmin directory on the SD card just as I'd done with the stock 630 .gcd (renamed gupdate.gcd) from Garmin, but (unlike the stock .gcd) the patched one never updated the firmware on reboot. I checked the GarminError.xml file and found no entries for todays date. I tried rebooting the device while holdig the various corners etc., but still no update. Finally, I copied the patched .gcd directly to the ./System directory on the nuvi, but still no update on reboot. Do you have any suggestions? Is there something I missed here? Thanks again for taking the trouble to make the patched .gcd, and my apologies if the cross post caused any problems. I'd been trying to do the update for about a week and I'm afraid that frustration got the better of me.

Try this:[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I renamed the rgn firmware to 631.
Remove every gupdate.gcd from device and sd before flashing.

Thanks again catymag, but still no joy. The patched .gcd files just don't ever update the firmware. Could it be because I updated to the stock Garmin 630 first. or because I'd already applied the "Enable Hidden Features" (post 33) patch?

Try this one, extract and use gupdate.gcd in microSD Garmin folder: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Read Post #34 about logo flash.

Thanks Neil, but still no luck. I read post 34 about logo flash. I was just reporting anything I could think of that I've done to the device since it accepted the stock Garmin 630 firmware update from the micro SD card.
