    Default Modding fw DriveAssist 51

Hi there Butters, I succeeded in getting an SD Kit for Drive Assist 51, I extracted and copied to SD card but it doesn't work. It only boots the device normally without flashing. I also patched the software and used rgn tool but device doesn't enter preboot mode. Please help out.

An SD kit is used for flashing firmware BINs modified by Universal Firmware Patcher so that a device can use 'unlocked' maps and is generally used because modern devices like yours are difficult for users to get into preboot. Mostly the reasons for an SD flash not working are either because an incorrect HWID folder or last_id.bin is present because of previous usage of the kit. Your EU Drive Assist 51 has HWID of 2590, the similarly named Drive/DriveSmart 51 and DriveLuxe51 have HWIDs of 2586 and 2589 respectively. Flashing incorrect files can permanently and irretrievably brick a device. You'll need to access Master zone for more detailed assistance.

Can you please help me with the SD Kit for the device, the one I tried flashing was fw version 4.10 and my device is 4.00. Could that be the reason it is refusing to flash?

Sorry, no. Modifying Garmin's software for such a purpose as using illegal (unlocked) maps is against this forum's rules now. I'll help you find the reason that the V4.10 kit didn't flash for you however and it's not a problem that you have later version BIN files in the kit. The very latest version is actually V4.40 anyway.

    Check the following:
    • Ensure you indeed do have a US/EU firmware DA51. The HWID of your device should be 2590: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. There is a regional variation for APAC with HWID 3109.
    • Examine the SD kit to confirm that the HWID folder is named the same as the device's, i.e. 2590. If it's not the same DO NOT alter the kit or further attempt to use it in any way with your device.
    • If it is the same, check that a file named last.id_bin is not present in the folder. If it's present it means the kit's been previously used, so remove it because it stops the kit being used again.
    • Look for a file there named update.log. If present it contains the flash history. If there, open it in Notepad to copy and post the text content here.

I've rechecked and confirmed that it's DA 51 with HWID 2590 and the folder is named as such, there's no last.id_bin and no update.log, only update.txt.

    Only update.txt? What about Ldr.bin?

    Yes it's there, along with ldr.bin, 7f.bin and 0E.bin.

Then if you're absolutely sure the device is fully OFF (not in standby) when you insert the card and power on, it's got to be a problem with the card itself. Things to check:

    • If there's anything at all on the card apart from the Garmin root folder then remove everything else. Note the Garmin folder must be in the root of the card, not within another folder.
    • Check the card is formated only FAT16 or FAT32, if you're using a large SDXC formatted in exFAT it won't be recognised so either re-format or use another smaller card.
    • Sometimes a Garmin device won't acknowledge a particular card for some reason even though the card can be seen by PC or even other Garmin devices without problem. Try another card, but extract the compressed file directly to the new card rather than copy from the existing card.
    • If you don't have another card available, reformat the existing one using SD Formatter then re-extract the Garmin file directly to the card:
