thumbup Firmware downgrade for 721xs to recognize custom maps

Not knowing that Garmin GPSMAP Series with SD Card with the update to v4.20 and higher, doesn't recognise any other maps then the original, I updated to v 4.60.
Now I can't use my own marine charts anymore. I would like to go back to v 3.80 (the last one whitch is working) but I can't nowhere find it.
Could somebody provide me with a link, or the software self?
    Thanks in advance
    alex

I have a plotter SD card update from September 2014 which contains some unit updates for V3.80 but i don't know your unit's HWID. Please advise what it is and if i have what you want i'll upload it [to find HWID from the home screen, select Configure>System>System Information].

Hello Neil and thank's for the quick reply. I love this forum
I looked up the system Info, but couldn't find any HWID, only serial #[removed] but I am just a old fart and by no means a computer crack.
The units to which the update aply are:
    GPSMAP 527/527xs/547/547xs/557/557xs
    GPSMAP 721/721xs/741/741xs/751/751xs
    GPSMAP 820/820xs/840xs/1020/1020xs/1040xs
    EchoMAP 50s/50dv/70s/70dv
    Maybe that can help?

Yes, as i said i have an older plotter update file, it's for multiple units and i need to know whether i have V3.80 for yours. The only way i can tell is to match the HWID.

Maybe on your unit it's called something else like Serial#, but that's its UID or Unit ID not the HWID. I don't have a 7x1 device to hand and i said to find it "from the home screen, select Configure>System>System Information" from memory. If that doesn't disclose it, try holding the battery symbol for several seconds to enter a hidden menu, press next until you see a screen headed 'Version Information', then press 'Start Test'>'More'. In the first line look for BXXXX-xx. If that works, 'XXXX' is HWID.

Connect plotter to PC, look for GarminDevice.xml in Garmin root folder. Open the xml file with a web browser and look for:
    -<Model>
    <PartNumber>006-BXXXX-xx</PartNumber>

    XXXX is HWID.

Or, anyone know HWID for GPSMAP721xs?

    Default Download link renewed.

Actually i'm sorry Alex, i didn't give you clear enough instruction before because 721 series are 'old-style' region-only units not accessible in Mass Storage Mode on a PC. Anyway, good news! The pack does have HWID 1667 V3.80 fw on it [i've also found an earlier one with V3.40 for hwid 1667 too].

The only downgrade instructions for this pack i've ever been able to find are from a DE site for echomap50, so i hope that's usable for you with the 721. I've translated to English and included it in an RTF file with a link to the original post in boote-forum.de in case you need it. You'll need to use a clean SD and make sure that a new xml file isn't generated before you've completed the downgrade. I'm uploading it all presently, but it's still 247MiB compressed and i've a slow adsl so check back here later. if you'd like to make a start reading up on the downgrade procedure, here's the thread link:
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
Post #39 in that thread above has the instructions for echomap50 downgrade in German.

    EDIT: Here's the rar file:
    Spoiler: Click
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Extract it to find the RTF file and ChartplottersUpdatewithSDcard_20140909.exe. Connect an empty SD card [minimum 1GB, maximum 8GB] and run the exe file which will create a garmin folder and place the gupdate.gcd in it. Follow the downgrade instructions from boote-forum.de and hopefully you'll end with V3.80 fw. Good luck.

    Hi Neil,
thanks again for your patience and time with me.
I am just downloading the file, and will try to downgrade this afternoon if the wheater let me.
It's funy that you found the same tread about the problem. It's the tread where I found out why my charts don't work anymore.
Very nice of you to translate it from German (not Dutch) for me. Again thank you for your time. I will let you know how it went

Ha ha! Another of my senior moments [i'd prefer to blame the spell-check, but i'm sure it was me]. I meant to type Deutsch and somehow it's came out Dutch. I'm fairly sure that the downgrade procedure will be the same or at least very similar to the instructions for echomap50 in the Deutsch site. lol.
