Default Nuvi 200 - Thick as a Brick

    Dear friends,
I need some advice for the following issue:

    1) Nuvi 200, Firmware version 5.10 - Id 660, HWID=[uid removed].

    2) I have formatted the device instead of the SD for mistake. How a dumbass, I know! I'm afraid I'm pretty bricked too...

    3) The device keeps rebooting forever: black, logo, loading maps..., black, logo, loading maps..., and so on...

    4) My PC does NOT see the device as a local disk. I can connect via G7toWin, but only to retrieve HWID, other commands give me "Fail to open USB port: Invalid Handle"

    5) I've read as many info I could and downloaded [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    6) I have latest Garmin USB Drivers running on Windows 7

    8) Not tried GarminCure3 tool yet

    9) I'm not able to reach preboot mode and I have followed the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for my device

    10) I have NO NV backup

I'm afraid I have to install a new software/firmware from scratch, please suggest the best practice.

    Kind regards,
    Luca

That's not your device's HWID, that's its Unit ID so i've removed it for you. The HWID is 0660.

G7ToWin only sees nuvis in preboot, so you can reach it. Follow Smokefree's guide and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in preboot, back up and then reformat properly with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    Dear Neil,
    thank you.
I will do as suggested and report for duty even if I'm pretty shure there's nothing left to back up since the unit was wiped (new partition + format FAT32).

    Talk to you later.

important to flash in preboot: Before doing anything Drag&Drop the rgn file you want to flash to your device in Updater.exe.
Files must be in the same directory, after that try to reach preboot in nuvi, connect and flash when Updater will see your nuvi.

    Dear catymag,
thank you for the extra lines.
Just successfully flashed the device with CURED. Windows is asking me if I want to format drive F: this lead me to believe I'm in mass storage mode.
I've safely disconnected the USB device from PC.
Now I'm ready to reformat the drive.
Talk to you in 10 minutes.

    Dear catymag,
now nuvi 200 is seen by Windows as drive F: name "Garmin nuvi" has main directory named Garmin, inside two sub-directories:
    - Diag (sys_log.bin)
    - gpx (current.gpx)

Now boots correctly but with warning "No detailed maps found that...etc"

I understand thet I have to refill some missing software and maps, of course, but, strange enough, it cannot be seen neither by Garmin Expres 3.2.29.0 nor by Web Updater 2.5.6.0
    Puzzling, ain't it?

Restart nuvi, then look for garmindevice.xml in Garmin folder

Yes, reformatted with RMPREPUSB, then flashed again with ORIGINAL "nuvi2xx_regionfileonly__510.gcd"
    Probably the .gcd is regionfileonly...
I might search for a more "complete" .gcd file, right?

You must look at the right HWID only, that is 660.

    - On Device create new empty folder and add name Garmin
    - turn device off and on again and you will have garmindevice.xml inside garmin folder and webupdater will se your device.
