What do you mean with full format - RMPREPUSB do full format don't it?
I too make stupid mistakes when i'm tired [read 'tired & emotional' lol] so i can empathize with that feeling. Such as 'GPX' when of course i meant 'Garmin', sorry for that. It was actually a lazy copy & paste of a working command i used yesterday for copying a suspect GPX folder off a late model device which have GPX in the root, then i forgot to change it before posting.

In the cold hard light of a new morning [read sober] and seeing that ergn,48 didn't work for you i agree that there's no other viable option than to attempt erasing rgn41 now. If you get error as happened with trying ergn,48 this unit's maybe in big trouble, however i do now have a hazy recollection that 48 can't be erased on 2x5/W but i might be quite wrong there.

Yes, RMPREPUSB will do a full format. I think kunix just didn't want you to use the windows built-in tool that's all. Follow the instruction in the initial post of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] after you have cured it using kunix's cure as he said here:

Try ergn,41. Then flash GarminCure3-ed firmware. Then format with RMPREPUSB.

    The full command should be:
    ergn,41
    reboot
    Right?
    Or without reboot?
Without reboot most probably unit will stay in preboot mode and I can easily flash cure3?
The point is: If after erasing 41 unit can not go in preboot mode then what?
May all above sounds funny to experienced guys like kunix, Neil, Loly etc., but as I'm doing this for first time - it is important to avoid any misunderstandings.

If you omit reboot, you would have to reboot it manually, and you wouldn't easily see if ergn,41 has already finished. This is the only difference.
It will always enter pre-boot mode after erasing region 41, as x-loader and bootloader don't need region 41 to work correctly.
Moreover, as far as I remember, in "run update.txt" mode boot.bin doesn't allow flashing regions over USB anyway.

Do the procedure 3 times and same result:
    Parsing "ergn,41"
    Error
    Parsing "reboot"
    Success

Do you delete last_id.bin and updater.log every time you try to again erase reg 41?

So more or less that verdict means unit officially dead right?
If someone has any Idea - I'm ready to try it.

First and second time - yes I did.
Third time no, but I'll do it again - no problem.

My opinion - yes, it's dead, but only the flash chip, most probably.
People like Alviora install new flash chips (with correct data dump flashed, of course) and everything works fine then.

Sorry guys - there will be no more attempts to revive the unit as nuvi died /chip died physically/ - no light, no sign of life.

I do not think that for such old unit worths to exchange the chip.

Anyway - I want to thank to all of you that supported me all the time.
Thank you for lessons learned, I really learned a lot from you and hope some day to have the possibility somehow to help you in return.

Hope this thread can be useful to not so experienced users like me, as in two pages we have tried so many options and discuss a lot more.
