I have received a friend's nuvi with no label on the chassis (=no model number) and on the first page with the GARMIN LOGO it says: nuvi37xx (the known problem which I will try to fix later). There is a BlueTooth logo printed on the chassis, so I suspect it is a nuvi 3790.

Trying to find the nuvi's HWID I searched (according to your instructions) for "<PartNumber>006-xxxxx-xx</PartNumber>" in the file: nuvi\Garmin\GarminDevice.xml and I found 2 different lines (each appearing twice in the file):
    <PartNumber>006-B0482-01</PartNumber>
    <PartNumber>006-B0901-00</PartNumber>

The first line says the HWID is 0482 and
The 2nd line says the HWID is 0901
In the list of HWIDs in post 1, I can find NEITHER HWID=0482 NOR HWID=0901

    Any explanation/suggestion???

You must search for <Model> and immidiately after <PartNumber>006-xxxxx-xx</PartNumber>!

If you search for <PartNumber>006-xxxxx-xx</PartNumber> in whole file you must find a pair of dozen result. Voices, icons, text, help and etc including finally:
    006-B0482-01 - GTMXX,SYS+BB
    006-B0901-00 - TMC Rcvr,3G,SYS+BB

My advise to open file in text viewer an read it from left to right. You see all that you need yourself.

    Thanks Giomen! I found it!

    Now I have another problem:
I want to back up (all) the files of a nuvi 3490 but I cannot see the hidden/system files. I have enabled them in the File manager of Win7 (and I have used Total Commander (another file manager) with hidden/system files enabled but I have the same problem.

I have noticed that the nuvi is shown as a "portable device" which contains "Internal Storage" (i.e. nuvi's internal memory) and "memory Card" (i.e. the microSD card). In the "Internal Memory" I cannot see the hidden/system files. I tried with an older garmin USB driver v3.2 & 2.3.1.1 but I get the same problem.

    Any good idea or trick?

I found that I need to switch to MTP mode:
Press Upper-Right corner of the volume screen to enter diagnostics Page and then select:
MTP Settings > Mass Storage (instead of default MTP Auto Detect)

The device should be in Mass storage mode in order to see \.System

    Thumbs up

You can make it even easier: we save the GarminDevice.xml file from the memory of our navigator and, therefore, there is no need to edit the xml file.
