I'm pretty sure, I can make xrgn command write to any region if this command is implemented at all, including region 12 (this would make boot.bin crash, but anyway).

Over-USB region writing (updater.exe) and reading (gda.exe) has some prohibited regions too. And it's a different story, it's not like update.txt commands. I'm not so sure in this case.

In both cases region data is written using HWM_write_rgn function, which has some limitation too. And the way it works exactly is like unexplored space for me.

Well, it's mostly Greek to me but eye-opening just the same.

Umm, maybe Loly could learn that. In my case it would be easier to teach me to tap dance juggling a running chainsaw and three live monkeys while eating custard. I'm content to feed from the crumbs dropped from the rich man's table ... speaking of which, weren't you going to write some advanced tutorials some time back? Perhaps more than a mere passing mention of this 'magik' should also be included? [Better weigh in here too Caty, my hints are often too subtle .....].

I'm among the 734 viewers of this thread , I followed since the beginning and I felt a bit bad because unit bricking was probably generated by my continuous advice to backup region 41. Lol I know, it has been caused by a mistake , but I felt bad anyway.

First, congratulation to Smokefree for his starting post and for his unit issues descriptions: perfect to help helpers
Second, I'm grateful to Loly , Alviora and Kunix always ready to help out here.
Third : Kunix you are wonderful!

Neil, I was going to write many things, including advanced cure3 and advanced curing tutorials. I wish I had enough time for this. Maybe I will fulfill some of those plans this February.

You know i like to joke a bit and i hope you won't take any offence from my light-hearted and intentionally à gauche attempt above to reignite the fire in your belly. Whenever you can find the time will do of course. We'll just be happy and grateful to see them.

Then again, i could write them for you and submit the drafts for your editing. The problem with that is that you would spend more time correcting errors, half-truths, fallacies both deliberate and unintentional, and deleting arrant nonsense and gibberish than the time you would take if you wrote them from scratch. So offer withdrawn .... Caty might do it properly though

No hard feelings at all! It was my own stupidity that it happened in the first place. I learned from it and in that sense am even glad it happened.

Wherever possible and appropriate, I like to be as detailed as possible, provided the details are relevant to the issue. As Neil mentioned somewhere before: there is no such thing as too much information, but it can waste people's time when information, sometimes even a little detail, is omitted. And of course: one picture can sometimes tell more than a thousand words. I truly hope this thread will be of benefit to others who may accidentally end up in a same or similar situation as me. Also for them it is good to have all steps clearly explained, thus avoiding misunderstandings or further problems.
