Try to load version 5.1 in pre-boot mode.
I've had some limited sucess with this method.
Otherwise you must wait for Loly and Kunix (The A Team)

Thanks Neil. I tried Quickcure but it does the same thing as GarminCure. Flashes okay but never gets recognized into Mass Storage.

I will try this if loly's method fails.

Tried the rgn file in the repair folder with no luck . It flashes okay and everything but then never gets recognized into Mass storage to use prepusb. I am going to post a video when I get home from work tonight. Don't really have the time to right now, but it will show you everything that happens.

The repair rgn file supplied by Loly should be the same as the cure fw you made yourself by following the Cure3 tut. He posted that kit because sometimes ppl have errors making their own files but i was fairly sure that wasn't your problem.

You can try other things, here's one now: Let's first see if the unit can read from and write to the microSD. It would be helpful for you to have file and NV backups anyway so get a clean card, at least 2GB but preferably 4GB in size. Extract the rar file and then copy the Garmin folder onto the card, place it in the nuvi with it fully OFF and turn it on. Make sure you have it on charge because if this works it will take a while.

When its finished, look in the 0972 folder for a newly created file 'update.log' and check that shows the 2 commands for write to card as successful. If it is, you should have in the root of the card a full backup of your files in the Backup1 folder and a copy of your unit's region 41 as 41_backup.bin. If that's worked, let's then try to erase some suspect files from your nuvi.

If it doesn't work because ldr.bin is loading too late, we can try kunix's method to execute a patched version from updater.exe. Over to you ....

Okay so here is the video. I recorded it with my iPhone so bear with me on the smaller video view. You can still see everything and hear what is going on.

    @Neil

I tried the microSD but there is no new 'update.log' file. The picture I posted below is the contents of it after trying. I'm guessing it is because it didn't have the long time that you were talking about. The device restarts after about 30 seconds like usual. Here is the vid showing it.

I don't see model number of your nuvi before restart.

I think Loly is right as usual and there is a problem with the flash chip. It cannot use ldr.bin because it's not booting far enough. One last gasp try before you either strip it for parts or [if you're game] replace the chip which is a very delicate operation involving reballing. You can try to run commands from the card using a patched boot.bin flashed from updater.exe to bypass the rest of the firmware. All credit to kunix, from this post: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Here's a kit with the patched boot.bin and pack for the card:
    Spoiler: Patched_boot_kit
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Extract it somewhere convenient then copy the Garmin folder onto a clean card and insert it into your nuvi firstly ensuring it's fully off [hold the on/off button down to force it off]. Open the folder named 'Patched Boot RGN' and drag the file 097201000620.rgn onto updater.exe, select the radio button 'USB Device:' and leave it open and visible on your Desktop. Access preboot as suggested in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and click 'OK' on updater.exe immediately the unit details appear in the window to the right of 'USB device:'.
Cross your fingers & go make a coffee or have a beer or ten if it starts to flash because it will take a while.

    Good luck.
