Your symptom of black screen may indicate at worst that the unit has failed/is hard-bricked. You may be able to revive it by connecting to a reliable high current 5V DC power source [preferably directly to a rear port of a PC, not via a hub] and holding the power button down for an extended period. If it doesn't appear to 'wake up', take the unit into a very dark room to see if a faint light is showing on the screen. If it still seems completely dark hold down the power button for up to a minute to see if it changes. If it does show a dim light you may still be able to reach preboot so follow the specific instructions for your unit. If the screen doesn't change at all, open the unit and remove the battery connection to the board for a period of up to an hour then see if it will power up after reconnecting.
