    Dezl 760 LM

    Power outtage during map update

    Looping (loading maps)

Ran Garmincure3 and after many attempts was able to flash the cure to the device. Now the computer sees the device. I accidentally formatted the device instead of the card. The maps were being saved to the card, I think. Last time I updated the maps it required the installation of a card to load the maps.

Updater "The garmin device is not responding" it does recognize the device so i assume it IS going into pre-boot. I have tried (guessing) a couple of hundred times to get it to flash the original. Even had my wife hit the "OK' Button while I plugged in the device and held the button and screen.

    HWID 1516

    No backup

    Thanks for any help

    @Brick
    After loading cure follow this
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Then read how to with Updater here : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and load original firmware.
Be sure it's the right firmware (See [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for naming reason safety and procedure.) for your device (right HWID), copy the original firmware .rgn in the same directory of Updater and drag&drop it in Updater icon.
    Get preboot and flash.
Then create a Garmin folder in the root of your device and restart, run Express or Webupdater to get missing files. If something is missing just post and ask.

    Thanks for the reply.

I used the RGN tool to make sure that the HWID in the Firmware matched the HWID on the Dezl.

I still can't get Updater.exe to flash. It sees the device but just gives me "Device is not responding" error.

Have you formatted by RMPRepUSB ?
    Things to try:
    Reinstall USB drivers
    Change USB cable
Use pc USB port directly: no USB hubs

    Have formatted using RMPRepUSB
    Reinstalled USB drivers
I tried 2 different cables. One yielded the same results while the other didn't even show the device in Updater.exe
I tried all the cables from a direct port with the same results

I unbricked a 760 only last month. Don't hold the power button while you plug in the usb cable, just hold the screen's upper LH corner with the unit fully OFF then insert the microUSB plug [if the unit is on you'll have to force it off by holding the power button for several seconds, release it immediately the device goes off and instantly hold the screen while simultaneously inserting the usb plug otherwise it may attempt a normal reboot of itself instead of staying off then going to preboot].

    Try this procedure:

    • Load the original fw to Updater.exe, named for safety as said.
    • Select the radio button next to 'USB Device' on Updater's GUI, position mouse cursor over 'OK'.
    • Go thru the above suggestion to get it into preboot, it will show 'system' on the screen when it's in preboot and will only stay in that mode for ~10 seconds.
    • Immediately the device info shows in the window adjacent to 'USB Device', click 'OK' or just hit the Enter key on the PC keyboard.
    • Continue to hold the screen until 'Loader'/'Software Loading' appears on the screen or preferably just hold until Updater finished by giving the 'success' message.

    Thanks again for the replies.
I plugged in the USB cable while holding the LH corner of the screen.
I get the "system" message and then it goes into a "loading" message. Not a "loading software" or "software loading" message but just loading and it never comes out of that.
I pressed the enter key AS SOON AS THE DEVICE APPEARS in updater.exe
The system message appears simultaneously with the appearance of the device in Updater.exe but Updater only gives the message "Device is not responding".
Also, when the "system" message appears I get the chime in windows indicating it has recognized a device. I get another chime indicating the device has been disconnected once it goes to "loading".

I guess you were continuing to hold the top LH cnr of the screen although you didn't mention that. The Windows connect sound when you connect in preboot is correct and expected naturally, but hearing the disconnect sound and seeing the Updater message reporting the device is not responding indicates of course that the device has exited preboot prematurely and that shouldn't happen if the flash has started properly. For the flash to continue it MUST stay in preboot, it will exit preboot if you let go of the screen too quickly before the flash has fully initiated, or if there is power loss or [shudder] it has flash damage and it can also drop preboot spontaneously if the device is boot-looping [because it's then powering down and up repeatedly] but the boot-loop should have ceased if you've correctly loaded cure firmware.

It's unlikely to have co-incidentally developed flash damage so my feeling is that it's dropping preboot for another reason. Timing and luck are often crucial with bricked units so just keep trying over and over ad nausium. Some units take dozens if not hundreds of attempts for Updater to properly initiate a flash before preboot drops, however yours clearly flashed the cure3 fw successfully even tho' that took 'many attempts' in your own words and worse it was boot-looping then. So, keep trying, be quick with everything and don't give up. If you can get the flash to initialize hold the screen until it successfully finishes to be sure rather than let go when 'loader' appears. No matter how many times it gives the dreaded 'not responding' message just start again.

    Thanks again,

Yes I was holding the LH corner throughout the process.
When I have the system message I get 5-7 seconds that the device appears in updater. During that time I have tried repeatedly and still gotten the device is not responding message.
I will work on it some more this afternoon and see if I can get it to flash.
If/when I can get it working will I have to find a copy of the Basemap?
I will try some more this afternoon and let you know how it goes.
    Thanks again

Keep on trying and IMHO your cable is not good for this task.
