    Default Nuvi 40 does not start

    Hi,

    got a nuvi 40 from a friend for reactivating, but factory reset with thumb in the right lower screenedge while turning on does not work, the device only shows "Garmin" and then hangs.

    Is there another way to get it running again?

    Any help would be appreciated

    'There are no USB devices available' message from updater.exe means you haven't put the unit into pre-boot mode successfully. Hold the LH top corner and then plug the mini usb into the unit. First have updater.exe open on your desktop with the dot beside 'USB Device', with the usb lead connected to the PC already.

    It may be that the unit has V2.50 fw: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. V2.50 was withdrawn because it was faulty and you can fix your 40 by upgrading to a later (or downgrading to an earlier) fw as an .rgn file flashed using updater.exe in pre-boot mode without having to cure it with Cure3. If you're not sure what version, do the cure as dasilvarsa suggested though.

    @hudriwudri
    Out of interest, did it have V2.5 fw or did you have to cure it?

    Another unnecessary cure averted? A while ago I bought a 2nd hand 40 'bricked' with v2.50 and immediately downgraded it to v2.40 but apparently only a relatively small proportion of units stuck on the logo with 2.50 anyway. You were just unlucky with that one.

    yes but there is a specific file you need for the 30/40/50
    and the filename depends on the map version, they are a matched set
