For ten year the life give me no chance with nuvi after chkdsk wont boot anymore. Only success in resolving problem took place especially with old series.
But I often have the same errors after backup.

I've replaced the following in the nuvi

    gmapprom /map
    D3048090A.JCV /Junction View
    gmap3d /Garmin 3D buildings map
    37xx SQLite /stored .db files : Traffic trends,ecoRoute,myTrends and some user's string
    37xx G2S /G2S &.db :NüRoute technology & traffic Trends
37xx NTU ASR /NTU New Technology Unicode Voice recognition files

Everything appears ok so will give it a good test run tomorrow..
Anyone know What are .SRX & .srd files are, found in the ASR folder?

After Chkdsk you need to remove .chk files to free up space.
Also try Lolypop idea of formating Nuvi drive.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Lose The Memory card until you have fixed your nuvi.

Remove all unneeded voices, texts, help, keyboards and eula to free up space.

Hard reset and test after every step,Full Backup before deleting any files.

If Chkdsk Messes UP Nuvi We have found the fault, Format with RMPREPUSB and start again.
If there is nothing wrong with the filesystem Chkdsk will do nothing anyway.
Windows 7 often runs Chkdsk on the Nuvi drive Without Bad results. (After using Nuvi on XP and then using Nuvi on 7)
If the Nuvi tries to overwrite a corrupt file and fails it will reboot.

below is chkdsk from Working Nuvi 1300

    C:\Users\dasilvarsa>chkdsk h: /f
The type of the file system is FAT32.

Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

The *.srx and *.asr files you have in the ASR folder of .system are map specific files and need not remain in the nuvi's memory. The .asr & .srx files can be shifted to a microSD to make space if you want. The path is sd:/Garmin/ASR.

The other files (*.srd) are language/dialect files and must remain there for a specific ASR to work. For instance if you have Italiano_.srd in the nuvi's .system/ASR folder you can use Italian ASR with the correct voice file present. Otherwise it just won't work. Even with EN there are dialects, e.g. British, American, Australian.

My almost brand new 3590 had messed up files when purchased. Reformatted it with prepusb which saved a lot of grief. I believe Loly is right about not using chkdsk. Best advice is don't run it, but if that's been done and has messed the nuvi up then you can recover it by correctly reformatting using prepusb. Sometimes Windows insists on running chkdsk, but if there's no errors then there's no repercussions as dasilvarsa points out.

When you connect nuvi on win7/8 pc they ask you if you check disc or if you go to nuvi with no check, and you just click with no check.

Create complet backup of your nuvi, run chkdsk and if you have .chk about 1mb or more, compare data on your nuvi with backup.
You will see, that on your nuvi desapire some files or this files will be in some different folder.

I see a lot of nuvi when user say that he only connect nuvi to Pc and add map or poi on nuvi and after this nuvi wont boot anymore.
When i ask him this: do you have win7/8 and do you click on check disc when Pc recognize nuvi, answer was 2x Yes
So, no problem with map or poi but problem was becouse user run check disc.

How do i know this, that no problem with poi or map?

I run cure FW and create backup of map and poi, format nuvi, download files with webupdater and add back the same poi and map and nuvi work like charm.

I added knew maps to the sdhc last night & the nuvi could not see them..
I checked & the images are complete byte for byte

Today I used the 3790, I thought It was fixed, & then the sudden crash!
But this time it did not reboot, I had to manually power up!
It happened when it was re-calculating the route as I purposly ignored a turn...
It never seems to crash when a destination has not been given, which kinda indicates it is a memory issue.

I dont know if this could cause issues but In tools/settings/navigation/car/map detail.. i set to more &
map data layout i set to more data
could the nuvi be struggling with rendering at that level to cause a crash?

view map/speed/SW0mh/shutdown causes/data abort.."log", then scrolled down to general registers
the CPSR is in red font 0x6000003F
    At the bottom,
Symbols status: stack trace incomplete.. anyone know what that means?

Just backed up everything & want to format the Nuvi & SDHC using the RMPrepUSB tool Lollypop000 suggested!
It looks very complexed, is there a tutorial on how to use this tool? can it do an unconditional format?
