Default Garmin nuvi 1490 stuck at Garmin logo screen

    Hi people I'm new here.

Couple of days ago I was creating a new route on my garmin 1490t when it decided to restart but since this happening it now won't load up. It just keeps hanging on the garmin boot splash screen..

So far I have used garmin-cure.exe to enable device to be recognised by computer as it wouldn't recognize before. which worked I have since formatted device and copied all files from a good device which now allows Web updater to see device only using cure firmware thou.

However device is still stuck on gamin boot image.*Webupdater keeps telling me there is 6.20*firmware*update available which I install however I do not think it's*installing*even thou Web updater and mydash say*installation*complete. Reason why is it keeps asking me to update device to 6.20 every time I use Web updater or mydash. So it just keeps looping device update.*

Another thing is if I use garmin cure to write original*firmware*it updates ok but then computer no longer recognizes device unless I hold top left corner which enables device to be recognised only by garminCure.exe but not long enough for Web updater.

    Any suggestions

In the GarminCure3 tutorial it's written that CURE firmwares are not bootable (they won't boot and won't flash GUPDATE.GCD, the can only enter the mass storage mode), so you need to flash the ORIGINAL firmware. To do it, select the "ORIGINAL" option, press "Make firmware", press "updater.exe", then put your device into pre-boot mode and flash the firmware with updater.exe.

To put your device into pre-boot mode, do the following:
    1) Disconnect your device from the PC.
    2) If the device is not turned off, then turn it off forcibly. You'd have to press the power button until the screen becomes completely black.
    3) Press and hold the very upper left corner of the screen.
    4) Press the power button and immediately connect the device to the PC and wait until updater.exe detects it.

Okay, first, forget about WebUpdater. I'm not using it, so I can't give an advice if it fails. Use updater.exe and pre-boot mode for flashing firmwares.

As far as I can understand your message:
    1) When CURE firmware is flashed, the device is seen as a flash drive by the PC and WebUpdater detects it and successfully downloads firmware update.
    2) When ORIGINAL firmware is flashed in pre-boot mode, the device is not seen as a flash drive anymore and it hangs on Garmin logo.
    Do I understand you correctly?
If so then it means that you haven't cured your device. Try formatting it as suggested here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Also backup the files on your device but don't restore them immediately after formatting, try booting the device with empty flash drive. One of the files could be causing the problems.

    Yes your correct above.

So let me get this right.
    1. Load firmware using garminCure.exe and use cure setting
    2. Format garmin using recommended software and settings
    3. Unplug device and leave it for few minutesrthen switch device on.
    4. Plug device back in and copy files to root
    5. Using garminCure.exe flash back firmware using original setting.
6.Then unplug device and restart it?

    Is this correct?

No, this is not correct. Do like this:
    0) I assume you know how to make CURE/ORIGINAL firmwares and enter pre-boot mode.
    1) flash CURE firmware using pre-boot mode. Now your device will be able to enter the mass drive mode.
    2) Backup your device's flash drive.
    3) Format it with RMPREPUSB as suggested here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    4) Don't copy files back this time.
    5) flash ORIGNAL firmware using pre-boot mode.

Ok so once I have done all of the above then what do I do?

And you cure using that garminCure.exe and then flash using iinstaller correct? And pre boot is just hold top left and powering on device whilst still holding top left of screen?

After doing the above as instructed by kunix your Nuvi should boot normally.
The tool to flash Nuvi in preboot mode is updater.exe
Once the Nuvi has booted normally you can use webupdater to retrieve most of your files.
Maps you can restore from backup or from Garmin if you have Map updates available.
